  1. Two Xboxes in the house, help me please!

    Hi all,

I just got an Xbox One X and am planning on giving my Xbox One to my son as a surprise. Can somebody please help and advise me on the best way to go about how to do this?

    Some info:

We both have a Microsoft account, mine has a Gamertag and have had an Xbox Live Gold account for a very long time

He has a Microsoft account but not Gamertag and no Live account.

So, when I received my Xbox One X I did the hard drive transfer and now the Xbox One X is my Home Xbox and will only be used by me - what is the best thing to do to my old Xbox One so that he can use it? (only he will use it). I saw some info around about
game sharing but it's all a little confusing and bearing in mind that we will each be using our Xboxes separately is that the best thing to do?

If I do the game sharing thing that would be good as I have an awful lot of games, I assume I can parentally control what he can see/install as he's only 7 years old.

    Any help greatly appreciated!

    Thank you.

    :)

    Hi there,

You'll want to make an account with a gamertag for your son. You can control what he can play, and how long he can play on the console. More info on setting up an account for him can be found here.

If you would like your son to be able to play/access the games you have purchased, you'll want to make his console your account's home console. That is how the game sharing works. That will also allow him to play any online multiplayer games you allow. More
    info can be found here.

You'll still be able to play your games on your console. You console will need to be connected to the Live servers to do so.

    I hope this helps.

  5. Thank you for the reply - are you only allowed one home console at a time?

When I moved from the original to the X I made the X my home console and don't remember making the original not my home console but maybe this happened automatically?

  6. Here hopefully is a simple run down of how the game sharing works:

    1. No matter what console your account is signed into you will always be able to play your games and use your gold.

    2. You can set 1 console at a time as your home console and any profile on that console can play your digital games and use your gold without you being signed in at the same time.

    3. You can only switch what console you have set as your home console 5 times in a year. so when you made your new xbox one x your home console that was a switch.

so if you want your son to be able to play your digital games and use your gold on his account without you being signed in at the same time that he is on his console you would have to make his xbox one your profiles home console. Like I said earlier you
would still be able to play on the new console with your profile no problems because no matter what console you are signed into you should be able to play your games and use your gold.

Keep this in mind though too if anyone else wants to use the new console and play your games and use your gold your profile would have to be signed in at the same time that they are.

  7. Thank you, I think that makes sense! So when I go to set up the old Xbox for him to use I need to:

    - Leave my account on it and make it my home console

    - Create a new account on it for him as some kind of child account so that he can only access my games that are suitable for his age

Does this in no way affect my Xbox One X? I wouldn't want to do that as I use the X a LOT

    Thanks for your help

No, none of that will affect your Xbox One X.

The only time you will run into an issue is if your One X is taken offline. With the other Xbox One console as your home console, that will be the only console you can use offline as it will have the content licenses bound to it. As long as the One X is
able to connect to the Live servers, you can play on it all you want.

One thing you can do for your profile on his console - set a passkey on your account so it is required when logging into it, or for any purchases. That way he can't accidently do something when your not present.
