Two (possibly related) issues: can't install game, saved games corrupt

So, I've had this Xbox for two years now, and a few months ago it started to show those issues. It's actually a "secondary console" that my girlfriend uses mostly for netflix and two or three games now and then.

So the first issue, of course, is that I can't ever install a game on it. Whenever I try, it just gives out a "damaged or dirty disc" error and sends me back to the game info screen. All my games are in top condition and work perfectly fine on my other Xbox
360. I've also tried installing them on a HDD and pen drives and whatnot but it just won't work.

The second issue is that it keeps corrupting EVERYTHING. Last week I took my HDD from the good xbox to the bad one and tried to play some Sonic Generations. Everything went well for the day. On the next day, though, my saved game was corrupt. Stick of Truth
had the same issue, in which a saved game became "somebody else's" and, as such, I just can't load or erase it anymore. SoT save data was on the console's internal 4Gb memory.

Cool idea about how to make xbox better

One thing I don't get is why they don't run a hash check during game installation and if you're a gold subscriber the corrupt unreadable sectors are downloaded to complete the install. Most heavily damaged and scratched discs will still easily pass the token
key authentication. I already install new games I buy or rent because of the fact a hash check is run for the entire image and if the disk is damaged it won't finish an install. I have exchanged two brand new games because they wouldn't complete an install
and saved myself the grief of the game possibly crashing somewhere.

 

Did MS give up on "the cloud"?

Speaking in a somewhat related direction, cloud saving saved my ass, last night. (No pun intended.) For whatever reason, my save for Sebastien Loeb Rally EVO was corrupt...corrupted(?). Anyway, I deleted the local save file, rebooted the game, and it sync'd up with my XBL save, and I was good to go.
