Two consoles, one gold account | multiple kids

We've had one Xbox One S for 18 months. I have an Xbox live gold account and the kids have been able to leach off of that account.

We bought a second console so that they could play duo on Fortnite against each other.

I set up the new console and added our accounts to that one.

Later, the boys tried logging into Fortnite on the new Xbox and were presented with the screen that said their accounts needed gold to access the game.

I called the support desk and we "added a switch" and made the 2nd Xbox a home console. (I thought it was strange we could have two home consoles.

We were able to get it working with support but it seems that I, as the owner of the account have to log into both boxes. (Log in on one, switch to a child then log into second and switch the account to another child) This is a stupid workaround while I am
there but useless when I am not at home. What is the proper way to set this up?

TLDR- How do you set up one account on two consoles so that your kids can use your gold privileges on both when you are not home.

have one live account. Can they use two different gamer tags and be on

the systems at the same time using the one live account or do they need

separate xbox live accounts?

 

2 xbox live accounts logging each other out

I have two xbox consoles in my house and two gold live accounts. When I log in to one box with account A, it logs account B out of the other xbox. This is driving my kids bonkers as they are always in the middle of something when it happens. Eventually,
after multiple attempts or reboots of the consoles, both accounts can be logged on, one on each xbox. Is there anything that can be done to stop this? Is it because they are both under the same email account?

 

You can only share gold on one console at a time. If they are going to be using both consoles interchangeably, you would need to purchase gold on 1 more account so you can have each gold account set one of the consoles as their Home console. Otherwise, if
they want to play online, they would have to use the console you have set as your Home console, or use the above work around.

 

How the Home xbox works.

1. No matter what console a profile is signed into it will always be able to use its gold and play its digital games.

2. Each profile can set ONE console at a time as its home console and any other profile on that console can then play its digital games and use any subscriptions that the profile that is set as home has.

3. On any console that is not set as a profiles home console can still play that profiles digital games and subscriptions as long as the profile that has the games and subscriptions is signed in at the same time.

To add to this you can only switch which console you have set as your home console FIVE times in a year.

So in your situation

1. Set one console as your home console and your sons can play fortnite on that console without you being signed in at the same time

2. Whichever console you do not have set as your home console your profile would have to be signed in at the same time for them to use your gold and play your digital games.

I was under the impression that this would be like my Microsoft account where I have 5 PC's and each family member has their own profile and can use any of the computers and Office applications and I don't have to log in.

That would make too much sense.
