two boxes - can't play simultaneously

I got the new Series X, and gave my kids my One X. When one of us is playing, it kicks the other off if both systems are running at the same time. how do I resolve this so we can both play independently?
Someone said to set up the old box as the Home XBox, but I'm not sure how this will resolve the problem as we will still be playing at the same time. Please help!

Hi there

It sounds like the issue your having is that your using the same account on both consoles.

You can not use the same account to play on 2 consoles at the same time, you would need to set up a second account to do so.

To share the games one of the consoles would be set as your main account (account with the games linked to it) home xbox.

This will allow the second account to log in to it and be able to play the games installed.

Then log your main account into the other console and you can download and play whatever games are linked to your main account.

I am the sole user of two consoles used as WIndows Media Center Extenders and would love for this situation to be more convenient. Can't they just verify that both boxes are on the same network and not being used simultaneously? Maybe one day...

You can't Game share GamePass unless you're on the same console. It can't exist on two consoles simultaneously with just one account. That's why it's asking you to buy the game.

You may be right, as that ties into Microsoft's theme that game licensing is similar to how it is today. You can't play your copy of Halo 4 simultaneously on two different consoles today, so things will be no different bla bla bla.

But it would be neat if you are wrong, eh? The all-online, cloud-sourced nature of the license model means it would be
possible to allow simultaneous play (something not possible when a disc is requried). A boy can dream...
