Two accounts on the same e-mail

Are you positive that the account you reset your e-mail to was the same e-mail you used for that (old) gamertag? Did you make two of a similar character e-mail address, maybe just different numbers?

It wouldn't be possible to create a second account with the same profile. It's possible your originally created account used a different e-mail while your contact e-mail was shared between the two accounts. Do you have any other e-mails you can test?

The same Microsoft Account wouldn't be usable across two gamertags, it's like likely that you may have mistyped your e-mail or used a different e-mail for your original Xbox Live account. Have you had a chance to test different e-mail addresses?

They are based on the same servers under the Microsoft account (e-mail address) they're registered under. You cannot merge two accounts with two different Microsoft accounts.
