TV turner to all Xbox One owners

Anyone know when we are going to get the update to allow use of the Hauppage tuner. I bought the tuner a few weeks ago unknowing it would only work for Preview members. I am anxiously waiting on this update. Any news would be awesome.

XBOX One Digital TV Turner Coming To Europe

Microsoft announced last week it will ship software accessory specifically tailored for Xbox One users in France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the UK by October 2014. The company stated the Xbox One Digital TV Tuner is a USB-based TV turner that works well with free to air television content common in those countries. You get all of this for $40. Customers in Europe will get more entertainment features and live TV through Xbox One. They will also have the ability to access their favorite shows and channels on Xbox One Digital TV Turner. Lucky for potential new customers in the EU!

 

Smartglass TV Streaming does not require the TV Turner Hardware and may eventually be used for HDMI-

I posted this on reddit but thought other here might like this info if you were as curious about this feature as I was. For me this will replace a slingbox I was thinking about buying.

So when this feature was announced I immediately went to the preview forums to question the mods and devs if the TV streaming feature required the TV Turner Hardware. At first it was all vague.
I finally got a legit acceptable answer from the Software team on the preview forums and it is good news.
TV streaming is NOT dependent on the TV Turner plug in. However the dev teams have to make the sure software stack properly supports the HDMI/HDCP protocols for the HDMI-IN port which the dev teams are currently working on. It also seems different cable providers do this a little differently on content so these are additional things that have to be tested.
To limit the number of test scenarios to start out with they are only allowing TV streaming to work with the TV turner Plug in but it definitely sounds like the plan is to allow TV streaming through the HDMI-IN port at some point.
This is an awesome feature when it comes to the HDMI-IN port and effectively makes your Xbox One a sling box on your local network.

 

Dont rightely know but I suspect possibly mid May to earley June. If legal dont put on a damper on it.

 

I spent over a hundred dollars on the tuner and antenna hooked it up and nothing. Preview Program!! Whats even more dissapointing is I dont have any friends whom I can ask to invite me into the program. I was moderated for asking in the forums. Seems its
a touchy subject. Hell, I even messaged the Major but no reply. Dude Ive been playing the Xbox brand since 2001 and its upsetting to want to be part of something you love but are treated like a whiny B

 

I believe you can put something in your signature requesting an invite without any issues, but I wouldn't quote me on that. Plus, by the time you get the invite and sign up, it can take a little while before you get accepted, might as well just wait it out,
the update will get released soon enough.

 

@truth once you hooked up the tuner and antenna, did you then run the tuner through its tuning set up process? Without doing this you will get nothing.

*edit. Just realised you are saying you are not in preview. Quicker just to wait until it goes live for everyone now. Not really wasted as you wanted it anyway and will have it working soon.

 

The articles that I read was that Happauge is making a TV tuner specifically for the Xbox One. I wasn't aware they already had one out that would work. hmm...

I bought my Tuner (Hauppague) at Best Buy Canada. They seem to have a mix of inventory on the shelves so I was able to pick up the WinTV-HVR-955Q for same retail price as the 950Q. Imagine the smile on my face. Now waiting for approval for my registration
for he preview program and will test from there. I have 14 days to return the tuner (with receipt) if I need to.

What a difference a week makes ! Seems the Xbox branded Tuner is available and even much cheaper than the Hauppauge model.

Xbox branded Hauppauge TV tuner arrived ! Seems to worke djust as good as Q955. Was much cheaper. Seems to work with Laptop too (haven't actually tried). Same funtionality just not all the cables and remote control the Q955 had. The Xbox version
did come with Antenna and cable/dongle extender cable to plug in the usb with flexibility.
