  1. TV Incompatibility Issue - Incorrect Aspect Ratio (IMG)

    Hi there :3

I seem to have very bad luck with my entertainment system setup. I have my Xbox One in the living room, connected to my Apex Digital HDTV (model LD4088-RB) via HDMI. My TV, for whatever reason, will not display the entirety of the Xbox One's screen. This
occurs in all apps (and in cable TV passthrough). It appears as if the screen is overcanned.

I jumped on twitter with @XboxSupport1 and sent them
    this tweet
. The image is a pic I snapped of my TV's upper-right-hand corner, where you can see that parts of the screen are completely gone. Long story short, the twitter support told me that my TV is to blame. Moving the Xbox One to a different TV makes
    the problem disappear completely.

You can see from the TV Calibration option within the Xbox's menus leads to this screen, where the problem becomes more clear:
    here's the images.

    What I've tried:

    1. Changed HDMI cables
    2. Changed HDMI-in ports on TV
    3. Cycled through all available aspect and zoom (including advanced) options on TV
    4. Factory reset settings on TV
    5. Factory reset Xbox One
    6. Test out every possible combination of video options on Xbox One
    7. Unplug passthrough
I understand that this is a problem with my TV, I get that. What I don't get is that in a living room that also has a PS4 and a Wii U, why is it that only the Xbox One that has any video issues? I don't mean to be frustrated...I just want to see my whole
screen - can you feel me?

Oh, and since it will probably come up: Apex Digital no longer exists, so there is no one (that I can see) that I can contact in order to receive more info -- or better yet, firmware updates -- for my TV.

    :)

  2. Aspect Ratio Incorrect When Streaming

I am using the Xbox App to stream my Xbox One to my Windows 10 machine. I have been doing this for a long time, but I somehow did something that now causes it to display stretched (horizontally) on my screen. If I try to go to the Display settings (on
the Xbox while streaming) and attempt to select 1080 (instead of 640x480), it causes the streaming to lose the network connection (doing any other stuff does not cause a connection problem, it is only the display settings). Everything looks good when I use
the Xbox One on my TV, it just appears horizontally stretched when streaming. This problem seemed to appear out of nowhere, and I am not sure what to do to fix it. Any ideas? Thanks.

Have you attempted to use the "Auto" in Advanced, while displaying the calibration image? The Apex manual (static.highspeedbackbone.net/.../Apex_LD4088_Manual.pdf)
seems to indicate the Advanced Options can only be used with VGA connections, but it's worth a shot. If there is visual information being displayed, the Auto adjustment should detect that overscanning and shrink the image to fit.

Another question, have you turned off all image enhancements (like black level adjustments and Noise Reduction?) It sounds crazy, but with Noise Reduction in particular, I've seen odd things happen with overall resolution.

It's weird that this TV doesn't have a "Just Scan" aspect ratio, which usually removes the Overscanning which often happens on a 16:9 aspect, even on TV's which HAVE a 16:9 formatted screen. (Mine, when set to 16:9, crops the edges, it has to be set to Just
Scan, so this isn't an uncommon issue, for what it's worth.)

Hi Jaymo, I appreciate your reply.

Unfortunately, the Advanced option is grayed out. This is probably cause it's only available with VGA, as you expected.

I messed with all possible image enhancement settings, including noise reduction and XVS, and unfortunately nothing corrected the overscanning.

I found it just as weird that this TV did not have a Just Scan option, or any ratio options at all.

Hmm, that's frustrating! It seems like it might be a flaw with the television, unfortunately. I wonder, though, if you might be willing to spend anywhere from $4-$20 to try to fix it, because it MIGHT be possible to hook up the Xbox via a standard HDMI-to-VGA
converter (like the ones beginning on line two of the following link.)

    www.amazon.com/.../ref=nb_sb_noss

You can find them at Amazon, but they should be available at any electronics store, Best Buy, Fry's, Radio Shack, etc. They convert an HDMI signal to a VGA signal with full-sized 1080p resolution, and since you would be hooked up via VGA, it seems logical
to think that you would then be able to use the Advanced setting options to adjust the size of the image itself.

It's worth a shot, and if it didn't work, I would imagine you could return the adapter. Seems like a weird fix, but it just might work....

  10. Hey again Jaymo,

I've actually considered doing the same conversion, however I decided against it since I would lose my Audio. And sure, I could instead use the SPDIF audio out from my One, except all of my SPDIF in's are currently in use (it's one hell of a home theater
    setup).

  11. I'm having the exact same issue and have gone through all of the steps the OP has, only my TV is a Sanyo. I don't know the model, but the settings are very basic and don't even include an aspect ratio option. And same as OP, I have a 360 and a PS3 hooked
up to the same TV with no issue. What is Microsoft even doing? This has been a day one issue, and there's really no resolution? I tried contacting support about the issue, and they told me to do things I already stated I did in the "Describe your problem"
bit. So not only is the XBone unfriendly with my TV, support is actively ignoring me... THANKS, MICROSOFT.

    There is this little guy:

    www.amazon.com/.../ref=sr_1_5

This would work with your TV's VGA + 3.5mm audio jack. The only way that wouldn't work for you is if you have your Xbox's HDMI running through a surround sound system.

Thinking on that possibility - if you ARE going through a surround system, have you tried unplugging from the surround decoder and going directly into the TV? I'm wondering if the Surround Sound system might be flummoxing the video signal when it passes
    it to the TV....

Of course, if you already ARE going straight into the TV, then the VGA+audio converter should work for you!

  13. Hey Jaymo,

Scratch that, I found a way to free up a SPDIF in on my sound system, so I bought

    this
and we'll see if it works day after tomorrow. In the meantime, cross your fingers for me!

  14. Oh, and no, the sound setup goes like this

Xbox --> TV --> Sound system

But for my new setup, it will be this:

TV (video) <-- Xbox --> Sound system (audio)
