    Turtlebeach 500X vs Astro A50

I'm leaning towards the Turtlebeaches since they're like $70 cheaper! And they're 100% wireless compared to the Astros. Anybody have any input on it? What justifies the price difference?

    :)

ASTRO A50(gen2) vs Turtlebeach Stealth 500X?

I've owned A50's for a long time. I've gone through three 1st generation A50's, and I'm on my first paid of 2nd generation A50's now. Here is my thoughts about the A50's:

    Pros:
    1. Amazing sound
    2. Extremely comfortable
    3. Fantastic build quality (2nd Gen is much better than 1st Gen)
    4. Easy mute (Just lift up the boom mic to mute)

    Cons:
    1. The 2nd Generation Headset Adapter breaks easily and/or does not always work properly. You constantly have to unplug and plug it back in to hope that it will turn on and connect you to voice chat.
    2. I did have two 1st Gen A50's that I returned because the button to control the EQ Settings was loose out of the box, and another pair I owned I had to replace because the left speaker went out after almost 2 years. Thankfully I purchased Best Buy's 2 year warranty so I could go and swap my headset anytime.
    3. The headset turns off after 5 minutes of inactivity. Some people think this is good to conserve battery, but the issue is that it only recognizes Game sound in order to stay active. If you're not in a game and just chatting with friends in party chat then the headphones will NOT recognize that they are being used and turn themselves off. This gets very, very annoying when you're just trying to chat with buddies.
    4. You need to use an adapter in order to chat with Xbox One. Not completely wireless.
    5. The battery is not removable, and there is no way to force shut down the headset. A big problem A50's have is that they freeze up and all functions are stuck. I've had this issue on the 4 pairs of A50's that I've owned. The only way to "resolve" the issue is to let the battery drain (5-7 hours) and then fully charge the headset again. This will let them work properly anywhere from one week to 6 months, but the issue will return...and it's been consistent with each pair I've owned. Astro offers no update or fix for this issue. They will simply tell you "Drain the battery and try again once fully charged." For $300 you should have to deal with something like that.
    6. You only have 3 preset EQ settings, which are not customizable. The only setting to even bother with is the bottom setting because that brings out the mids and highs needed for competitive gaming. The other 2 EQ settings just bump up the bass, but are not optimal for competitive play.

Currently I own a white pair of 2nd Gen A50's, but I'm likely going to return them to Best Buy today and try out the TB Stealth 500x. I'll try those out for a week and see if they're more reliable than the Astro A50's.

  5. A50's all the way they charge themselves so no batteries needed and just like most headsets it needs the cable for chatting purposes and they are better than any set of turtle beaches ive had

Stuck on what headset to get for xbox one :/

    My chat adapter arrived today!

I love my turtlebeach x41s. I tried the mlg turtlebeach earforce sevens....Not impressed.

I am actually picking up a pair of astro a50s tomorrow. I hope dolby digital gets patched soon.

    Dolby Digital Audio Lag

I'm having the same issue with my TB Stealth 500X's. I thought it was my headset until I tried a pair of Astro A50's to compare and got the same issue. I believe it's an Xbox problem and not a problem with the headsets. The Xbox One has audio sync issues
early on and it seems that the November update brought this issue back. Hopefully Microsoft looks into it.

    Gaming Headsets

I have been considering purchasing a descent set of headphones for my x1 and the two that seem to come out on top are the astro a50 and the turtle beach 500x. Now both seem to have there own setbacks which is a shame as the both cost around £200. So at the
moment I'm going to hold back and see if either of the companies will sort out these issues!
