Turning Xbox off at controller and controller stays on

So ive noticed after upgrading to an xbox x when i turn off the xbox with my controller. The controller then stays on and i dont understand why

Xbox controller will turn on but wont turn my xbox one x

Just got a new xbox one x. The controller will turn on and the button on the controller will stay lit up but it wont turn on my xbox. Also when I turn off my xbox my controller will stay on. What can I do to fix this?

 

Controller not working properly...help

I've had my xbox one for 3 days and now one time i turned my Xbox off but the controller stayed on...i pulled the battery and went to bed. Woke up and now the controller wont start the console...ok so i turned it on by the xbox itself...but now the controller
will act like its connected but wont work...turning the xbox off makes the controller stay on...whats up ? Ive tried to reconnect the controller and it acts as if its connected but it isnt

Thanks for reaching out to us! That does sound like an interesting issue. As you know, normally when you turn off the console, the controller will also power down; however, what your situation sounds like is that there may be something going on with the
operating system (OS) on the console itself or your controller may need an update.

If your controller is an official Xbox One controller (not a 3rd party controller), you may want to first check to see if its firmware is up to date:

1. Press the Xbox button
   to open the guide.
2. Under System, select Settings.
3. Under Kinect & devices, select Devices & accessories.
4. On the Xbox One Wireless Controller screen, select “…” to check the firmware version for your controller.
5. If it says there’s no update available, your controller is current. If it says “Update,” follow the steps provided.

If your controller is up to date, then what I would recommend at that point that you perform a soft factory reset to the console (keeping your games and apps) to remove any potentially corrupting files that may be causing issues with the OS.

1. Press the Xbox button
   to open the guide.
2. Select Settings.
3. Select All Settings.
4. Select System.
5. Select Console info & updates.
6. Select Reset console.
7. Select Reset and keep my games & apps.

Hello ive just tried doing both of the things you suggested it still does the same thing and I don’t understand what’s happening i have the xbox elite controller

Sorry to hear you are running into these problems. Apart from your Xbox One Elite Controller is there any other controllers that have the same experience? If you have not yet tested out any secondary controller to see if this issue is limited to just that
one controller or if this is affecting multiple controllers.

Just tested its multiple controllers also with the other controller it doesn’t turn on my Xbox but when the xbox is on its connected

 

Had the same problem myself a few days ago, with the Xbox powered on I pressed and held the power button on the Xbox for about 10 seconds, pulled the power cord out of the back of the Xbox and left it out for a couple of minutes, hooked the power cable
back up and powered on using the power button on the Xbox. Things are working fine now.

Thanks for that infomation i tried it now they all turn on the Xbox as well as off thank you i can’t believe I didnt try that straight away
