Trying to understand how game licenses work on multiple consoles with multiple accounts. Help?

Hi.

I’m trying to wrap my mind around digital game licenses and how they will affect me, my family and the consoles we own. I hope I can find help here.

Our current set up is:

-almost all the games we own are digital

-we have an XB1 in the living room

-this is set up as our ‘main’ console

-I have a gold account

-there are also 2 non-gold accounts for my kids on this console

-also have a 360 in the bedroom.

-mostly used for netflix and occasionally the kids play games on it

-has the same 3 accounts signed into it

I could have some details wrong on this part but here is what I’ve noticed.

The kids can play locally all games on the systems

They have been able to play Minecraft on-line with friends(I’m assuming this is because my gold account allows this, even though they are not using my account?)

The only other games they have tried to play on-line are SSX and Battlefront. They haven’t been able to play these on-line. I’m assuming it’s because it needs to go through EA’s servers and you have to be playing on a gold account for that.....?

All my understanding of this could be wrong though.

So, in November I am getting an XB1X. That one will become our ‘main’ console in the living room. Our old one will go to the bedroom and the 360 will go to my mother-in-laws house who lives down the street. That way she can use it as a Netflix box with her
Netflix account and the boys can play their/our games.

So I’m trying to figure out, what possible conflicts might I run into with this setup? Will I run into licensing issues? Will game stop working on one of these systems? Will I have issues logging into certain accounts? And also a slightly side question,
what are the limitations to playing on line? Will most games let my kids play on line as long as it is also on a console with my gold account on it?

I know. A lot of questions. And some are kind of scattered.

I hope someone can help clarify these.

myVIP rewards on game gifting?

Do I collect reward points via myVIP when I buy a game via digital game gifting on the Microsoft/Xbox Marketplace? I especially interested to buy games for LAN Partys on my 4 Xbox One Consoles or 5 Xbox Consoles (incl. 360).

The best way would be to declare multiple home console (1., 2., 3., ...) and get multiple licenses, but today the only way is to get multiple discs and one digital license for building up a local area network setup.

Creating a second account with Xbox Live Gold would allow 4 Player LAN with Xbox Live and I could get 10% off for the digital licenses. That could be sheaper as buying 1 digital license and 2 disc games, especially when it comes to dlcs.

 

Hi there,

On the 360, your licenses will remain the same until you do a license transfer to another 360.

For the Xbox One, which ever console you want the kids to mainly play on will need to be your account's home console.

If the Xb1X is to be that console, make it your account's home console so your games and gold will be shared with all accounts on the console.

The only conflict you will run into is if the kids are playing on the non-home console and you want to play on the Xb1X (your home console) one of you won't be able to. Your account will need to be logged into the non-home console for any of your games and
gold to work.
