Trying to turn off my console

when i hold down the xbox button on the controller the power off pop up appears but when i move the joystick im controlling the home menu behind the pop up this gets really annoying plz help

My console won't turn off.

Hello.

So, for the past day or so my Xbox refuses to turn off unless I pull the power chord out. As soon as I hit the power button, it shuts down for a couple seconds then powers right back up again. What's strange is when it does power up by itself, it automatically
connects to "Player 1" even though my wireless controller is not connected at all. So when I do try to turn my controller on, i'm stuck on "Player 2" and can't get the green light to turn off for the "Player 1" spot. I'm thinking maybe it could be an interference
issue of some sort? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Thanks a lot everyone, it was the guitar. I would have never thought of that being the problem.

I've experienced this problem as well. I've noticed that it usually happens when I try to move the thumbstick too early after holding down the home button. Try waiting a few seconds after you hold the home button before moving over to "console off."

Hi there. Have you tried clearing the update cache? If not try that and then unplug the console for at least 24 hours from the mains socket.

Alright, I will try that. It is unplugged now while I am at work so there is that.

Is the update cache a separate command than clearing out the system cache?

is your console still in warranty,after cleaning buttons and checking background downloads are off,can't think of much else you could try,i'd take everything apart hover out any dust,connect back up,clear cache and check HD for corupt files,and delete those,i'd
take HD out and see if shuts off without it connected,check power pack is showing green light,then if you have to phone support,you can say you've tried all these things to cure it.I wish you luck

Actually, I don't think there is anything that needs to be "fixed", it's working fine. It is actually convenient, I don't have to worry about turning the console off and on and disturbing an active download.......Wow! Microsoft are like total futuristic
visionaries man! They always think of everything. Aaaaaah!
