Trying to stream video's from windows 8.1 PC to Xbox 360 without windows media center

I've been trying to get my windows 8.1 PC to stream video's to my Xbox 360 and Im finding the only way possible is with Windows Media Center. This was not included with my PC when I bought it just 2 months ago. Microsoft is going to charge me $99.99 to
get Windows Media Center and force me to update to Windows 8.1 pro. This seems unreasonable being my last PC with windows 7 came with media center for free. IS there anyway around this? I've gone through all the apps windows now has and there all a joke. So
far none of them work. My PC will function as a controller for my xbox but will not link up to stream movies. Any ideas to remedy this other than paying $100 for a computer update and buying windows media center?

Xbox to PC help(Not the usual help)

Have you tried using Windows Media Center as a means of streaming video's from your comp? You can set up WMP on both the 360 and PC so that you can see any folder containing media and have it stream to Xbox. This way you can playback video's on both your
main drive and secondary without the need to place them in public folders.

I would recommend using that method of streaming video's and then just tell WMP on PC which folders you wish to share with the Xbox. Then when you access WMP on 360, it should see every single folder you have given permission to share from the PC. Its the
way I stream video's to my 360, with no issues aside from the fact Xbox does not play MKV unless you use alternative media sharing software.

I have had good luck using the free version of Plex Media Server (on the Xbox it will be under System Player once it is set up). Until recently that is. but I would try that or KODI media player.

I didn't try this but you might use the 'play to' function on your windows 7 media center or windows 8.1 system to stream the video to your Xbox. Currently you can only watch videos which came from dvd, bluray or Xbox video directly on the box

Are you trying to connect your PC via the System Video Player app or are you trying to set up a Windows Media Center connection? If you see the PC listed in your System Media Player app, you can add other PC's to it but you can not disable one from showing

You can take music from a PC and play it on the Xbox but can not do it in reverse.

If you like to have your music on your PC and play it on your Xbox you should try windows media center.

I would recommend using windows media center so that you can stream music live from your PC right to your Xbox.

Are you trying to stream a game from Xbox 360 to Windows 10? That's not supported - the media center of old was for streaming videos and songs.

There is a way to stream Xbox 360 games to Windows 10, but it involved using an Xbox One and playing the backwards compatible Xbox 360 on the Xbox 360, then streaming the Xbox One to Windows 10.
