Trying to recover saved game data

My son was asked the other day after a system update which game save he would like to use (cloud vs local) and he picked local not realizing that it had been deleted. It then pushed that latest version,
which was a new save game to the cloud and we can't get it back. We have deleted the game and tried to get the save back via the cloud, but it appears to be gone/updated with a new save...aka gone. He had several months on the game (Forza Horizon 4) and
is devastated. I have since taken the drive (external 2TB) and put it on my windows 10 machine and did an EaseUS data recovery and recovered files (not sure if they are save game files) from the hard drive and have files from about 2 months ago. I do not
know how to put them on the external xbox drive to be able to make them playable. When I actually try to access the drive on my pc, it wants me to make it look like an actual external by adding an MBR to the drive. I don’t want to do anything to screw up
the other software of the drive, just want to add the files back to hopefully restore his save game from 2 months ago. All of the articles on the web for this are how to back up, but nothing for how to restore the files to the hard drive to play from that
save. What good is backing up files if you can't restore them when you have an issue. Thanks for any help!

Can I violate the terms of service? This game was the only reason we were keeping the xbox, so I really don't care about a warranty. If it can't be done, I understand that. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Unfortunately once he chose the local save it would have overwritten his cloud save and there is no way to recover it.

Xbox files are not meant to be seen by a PC and transferred between the two without violating the terms of service.

Thanks for reaching out here in Xbox Forums. I understand there is an issue with deleting files from the cloud storage. Due to choosing local, it will overwrite the saved file. I recommend checking out the following articles:

If the problem persists, The EaseUS recovery might have changed the codec for the game save. I recommend reaching out to the program developer for more information on how it recovers the data.

Thank you for the reply, usually if you are playing online on a game on Xbox, your data is automatically saved to the cloud. Therefore you should be able to recover it. See information on this link Xbox cloud game saves FAQ | Xbox Support.

However, if the data was deleted manually, you might not be able to recover it. For your case it would be best if you try checking the game developers to see if they would be able to recover the lost data for you.

Thanks for coming to the forums. We understand you are trying to recover saved worlds. We recommend to check the storage for the game itself. See if there is save data within the game. To do this go to system settings>storage>then choose your game. If it
is not there it is possible when the Xbox glitched that it deleted this data. If it did and you do not have cloud save enabled then they are gone and there is no way of recovering them.
