Trying to purchase/gift a game using xbox

My son purchased a gift card for his friend that he is game sharing? with but accidentally applied it to his friends old account. He called Microsoft support and was told to purchase the game they wanted on the account with the $50 gift card on it and
gift it to the new account but for some reason it doesn't give him the option to pay for it with the money already applied to the account it only gives him options to pay with a credit card or a new gift card? How can he use the existing money on that account
to purchase and gift the game he wants?

Buying games with Gift cards

Hi, I'm trying to buy a game using the gift cards that I've redeemed, but I only see my credit card option under payment. How to I purchase games with the money (redeemed from gift cards) in my microsoft account?

 

AVAILING XBOX GOLD 40% OFF ON ANNUAL SUBSCRIPTION!

I was trying to BUY a 40% - off on XBOX GOLD!

But I couldn't Succeed the Purchase.....I was using the XBOX gift card worth 50$ .

I don't know how to purchase it with the Gift card. i did know how to do it EVENTUALLY, but the offer wouldn't let me!

Please help!

 

One potential issue might be if it's a child account. I'd recommend checking that accounts Privacy and Online Safety Settings.

This page has instructions on how to get to those settings on Xbox dot com or an Xbox console. There are settings in there that might be preventing gifting. Also if it's managed by an Adult account in a Microsoft Account family, that adult account might
need to manage it via the Microsoft Account Family tab at account.microsoft.com
