Trying to get old gamertag back..

I'm sorry to see any issues with recovering a gamertag! Unfortunately, we can't assist with any email situations here. The most common scenario in these cases is that the email thought to be associated with the desired gamertag is different than the customers
remember. You should be able to
contact us via phone or chat to see if you can provide enough information for the Johnson1623 account for them to be able to tell you the email address.

Once you have full access to that account again, you should be able to
change your Microsoft account on your gamertag to reflect the email that is associated with this current gamertag.

Here's the thing, I know the e-mail address associated with the old account as well. Problem is, it was a yahoo acount which is also old and needs to be reactivated/reverified. Apparently when I was 15 i used bogus info while signing up, and so my attempts
to regain access to that account are also running into a wall

If you used bogus info, it's likely a lost cause. Sorry to say.

If you're unable to answer all of the security information in regards to the old account then customer service will not be able to give you the e-mail associated with the account. You will not be able to change the gamertag or the e-mail or anything on the
account. You would need to figure out the last 4 digits of the payment method on file so you can get the e-mail on the account and begin the process of changing the information around.

The only way you'd be able to get this gamertag now is to wait until it's released (Microsoft holds gamertags for upwards of 7 years) and once it's released you can change your now gamertag to your old gamertag.

I urge you to continue to speak with customer service again in regards to this issue. Unfortunately, no one on this forum will be able to release this gamertag for you,
or help you further with this specific issue.
