Trying to claim unused Gamertag but says taken. (Support suggested making thread)

As the title states, I'm trying to get a tag that was released during the recycle but it still says taken. If you search for it, it says page not found or if searched from the friend page it says there is no such person. But when I try to claim it, it just
says taken which obviously it isn't. I need to talk to someone that can actually help me. I spend 24hrs attempting to claim my GT on the recyle day on different browsers, website, xbox, and mobile. I have talked to Customer Support 3 times now and there has
been no good advice that lead to an actionable resolution. One told me to keep trying, the other told me to post on xbox voice and the last one said to post here. I'm hoping someone can help me get the Gamertag I've been wanting to get for 9 years.

I do not wish to post it publicly for fear of someone else somehow getting it but will happily send the GT to a MS person through a PM or other method. Pleas help me get this resolved and get the tag I want.

Xbox live wasn't around in 2000/01.

Anyway,if it says your old tag is taken then it's taken.If it was unused then it was reset when they recycled all unused xbox gamertags a few years ago.

If the system indicates that the tag is taken or reserved then it is not available for use. These tags are used on other MS services other than xbox.

 

Can anyone confirm that that is in fact the reason and not an error in the system? It took the normal path of being released from normal profile, to randomly generated name, to nothing. All signs point to released profile.

 

The system is the only monitor of these tags and if it is taken or reserved in the system then it will not be available for use. No one in the forums has any ability to make changes to the gamertag system. As I stated previously, these tags are also used
with services other than xbox so just because you can't locate it in the xbox search does not mean that it is not taken.

You can contact support directly but they are just going to tell you the same thing and they might even refer you back to the forums as they do incorrectly many times. support.xbox.com/.../contact-us

 

That's how I got here in the first place. I find that the system being the only monitor of itself a little short sighted or not very smart. How does one find bugs in the system? Wait till it collapses? I'm not asking for anyone in the forums to do anything,
I'm asking for escalation to someone who can answer the question. I have got nothing but maybe's, probably's, should's, promises, and shush answers. There has to be someone who can actually check the system and let me know for a fact that it is in use by another
service or the system has erred out. I'm tired of educated guess and the run around.

 

There is no one you can contact about this. If the system says it's taken, then it is in use somewhere on Microsoft's servers. There is nothing else that can be done.

 

KRS ON3 it is the correct answer whether you consider it acceptable or not. If the name is taken then you should just pick another one and move on. No one is going to do anything other than tell you the facts and you have already been given those in detail.

The name is taken. You searching for it might not yield a result because the search is strict about capitalization and spacing, however the system for assigning tags doesn't consider spacing (in other words, to the assigning system "gamertag", "GAMERTAG",
"Gamer Tag", and "G A M E R T A G" are all the same tag). For example, if you searched for "theoryofgame", you won't find a profile by that name - however, if you tried to change to "theoryofgame", the system will say it's taken (and it is... by me).

 

Yep and you can try millions of variations you just won't find it unless luck of the draw

 

I'm having the same issue. I tried to check the availability on
other account and it says it is available. But I tried to change it in my
main account, It says it's taken. I don't get it??
