Trying to change my name from TheRealShiftrr To Shiftrr But taken by a inactive account

I am a partnered content creator on Mixer and have the name Shiftrr. Here
https://www.mixer.com/shiftrr I have noticed that Shiftrr is taken on xbox live. My current gamertag is but the shiftrr account is inactive for a couple years now. I would like to change my name to that and I have heard of people taking usernames
that have been inactive. Any Advise? So lets get some up vote to get this noticed

Want a gamer tag that's taken, account appears inactive

so I know wow takes names away from accounts that have been inactive for so long, does Xbox do that too? There is a gamer tag I want, but it's taken. Account seems inactive, following one person, no gamer score, no captures, no achievements. Nothing. I sent
them a message too but i know I won't here back. How about a friendly forced name change and let me have the name?

 

Changing Gamertag

My buddy wants to change his Gamertag from GlitchyTv to just "glitchy" but the name is taken but its been inactive is there anyway it can be cancelled and the name be available again? Please contact ASAP its very important

 

You would only be able to use the name if the original owner changes the name to something else, or if they do not sign into the ccount for 5 years it will be freed up by Microsoft. Th gamertag system is in use on other Microsoft services. So even if it
is not in use on am Xbox, it may be in use somewhere else.

Yes. As I stated, after 5 years it would be freed up. That policy just started in 2016.

 

I am still going to try now being partnered it is important to have everything accessible to your audience

All the followers on that person account is people trying to locate and fine me lol

 

You can keep trying but there is no way to request a tag to be freed up. The above mentioned method would b the only ways it would be released.

 

I would love to see the limit lowered personally as well. 5 years of inactivity is a silly random number. I'd say if you don't log into an account in 24 months you're pretty much abandoning that account.

 

Like 3 years seems reasonable

 

I peronsally have encountered this issue my self with another gamer tag

 

I know man! IT suck I would pay the person to change but has not responded to any emails or direct messaged its vacant!

As Smwutches said, you'll see in the
Microsoft Service Agreement, "Notice that Xbox now requires that you sign in at least every 5 years to keep your gamertag active."

At this time, we're afraid if you're unable to choose a specific gamertag, you'll need to select a different one.
