"Try That Again. Something happened on our end..."

I am trying to purchase a Gold membership, but each time I attempt to make the purchase I get the following message:

"Try that again
Something happened on our end. Waiting a bit might help."

This is happening when I use both the microsoft website and my xbox one console, leading me to believe that the issue is with my account and not with my console. I have been able to download free games from the gamestore without any problems, but am unable
to make any purchases.

i have checked to see that i have no outstanding balance, i have checked that my account is connected to a valid credit card with sufficient funds, i have tried to make the purchase on my xbox after a hard reset, tried to make the purchase using my computer
and the microsoft/xbox websites while my console is both on and off, i have logged out and into my account on each different place. the message persists no matter what i try.

is there something i am missing?

I've been getting the same thing for nearly 2 weeks now, I unsubscribed and bought a 3 month pass, and tried adding that info in, it also came up, then I thought I might be able to redeem it on my phone, and once again it said the same thing

for any payment/billing issues it's best to contact Xbox Support via Phone or Microsoft Support Chat at
Contact Us | Xbox Support

They are the only ones that can do a more in depth check into the issue and hopefully sort the issue
