    True game ownership, are we ready for something new?


    Has anyone considered using block chain for making gamers the true owners of games?

    It would bring back almost forgotten part of early gaming in that titles could be traded/sold between players. Obviously from the outset it would appear to have an inherent cost due to loss of purchases through the store, however..

    By placing a small charge between transfers/sales it could in fact be more profitable with heightened trading activity and people being less inclined to buy a second hand physical copys.

    The marketplace could include 'recommended prices' and 'recently sold' with other features that are included in popular online auction marketplaces.

    Making a move like this would truly change the optics of how game ownership is perceived and show a side of the industry that has yet to be truly realised.

    Who's going to send/post second hand possibly damaged games if this were to be an option?

    Thanks everyone, I believe this needs to change and we need to start a serious discussion on this with iTunes, xbox live, and movie studios. Since we don't physically own this content then we should not have to pay ownership prices people. Just having access
    is not ownership and we should not be charged for ownership. Something is seriously wrong with the pricing model.

    Yes, it simply isn't in the "ready to be installed" tab, despite my ownership of the game, and wants me to purchase it again.

    My statement stands true. It has nothing to do with a takeover or ownership. The point is they allowed it to happen on "Their console" imagine purchasing cyberpunk2077 and then say "Well it's not Microsoft's fault the condition the games in so we allow it"

    It's called WindowsApps.

    It's encrypted and protected. You can actually take ownership of it, but doing so is still pointless as it will still remain an encrypted folder.

    If you've migrated to a new PC or re-installed the OS you'll need to take ownership of the folder to delete it in order to install new apps and games to the drive.
