Troubles trying to copy games from internal HD to external HD

Can anyone please tell me how to copy my installed games in xbox one's HD to an external HD?

I selected the game, and after selecting "manage game" , I have the option "tranfer all" , "copy all" , and "uninstall" . I selected the transfer option, the xbox freezed for some seconds and nothing happened. Nothing about selecting the external hard drive.
The same happened to the move all option. :/

ps: the HD is installed, formated, and it seems ok, with 1,8 tb of free space!

Transferring saved data and games from XB1 internal HD to external HD

Hey there,

Make sure you have enough space available in your External HD for both games. Make sure you follow the steps QuickMythril posted. Moving the games from internal to external HD should work unless there isn't enough space available. Also make sure that the
external HD is connected properly. Hope this helps

Is 1TB enough for X1?

I've always wondered if a external HD is as fast as a internal HD. Never been able to get a definitive answer as some will say internal is faster others say the external is. If the external HD is as fast as internal then 1 TB would be enough.

Can you try power cycling your console? That might help fix things.

If you are then able to select the hard drive, you should leave it for a minute or so because it takes a while before it begins transferring and I've personally found it sometime to be a bit tempremental as to whether it wants to transfer or not.

I'm sure it depends on the download speed of the ISP.

I'll tell you one thing tho, copying a 40GB game from the internal HD to an External HD is quite fast. So once you get past the first download, if you ever need to free up space, get a backup external.

I got down to 20GB free, got a 1TB external (900GB+) and just backed up my whole HDD. Then I can remove from the internal if need be.

Thanks for the reply. We recommend to try that first to move or reinstall it on the internal HD. Personally have found myself some games work better on the internal than on external HD, which is weird.

Thank you for coming to the forums. You can have up to 3 external drives on the Xbox at one time so essentially you should be able to transfer or copy your games from on external drive to the other and vice versa. Just follow the article provided by

Kiesey to get to the Storage settings and follow the steps on how to transfer games from drive to drive.

Open the Settings app on Xbox One.
Navigate to the System tab.
Select Storage.
Scroll over to the right to select the internal drive.
Select Transfer.
Select items you plan to transfer. If moving all items, choose Select all.
Choose Copy selected to copy the items between drives. To completely move the items, select
Move selected.
Choose the drive you plan to move content to.
Press Copy or Move to initiate the transfer.

If for whatever reason it does not let you transfer from external HD to external HD, you may need to copy the games first to your internal HD and then copy the same games to your new external HD. This step may take longer but is still an option in case you
cannot copy from one external HD to the other.
