Troubles Reading Games

Hey!

I'm new to these forums and I'm not too familiar on where to post this so I posted here! Before continuing, I must say that the announcements in the sub-forum given were not helpful for the person intended. Anyway, I have a friend who has had his Xbox 360
Slim for about 3-4 years and it has suddenly stopped reading games about a month or two ago. He would basically put the disk inside, run it, and it would do nothing. It also would make the noise but it would stay on the dashboard screen so I'm guessing that
the issue of this is that the reading lens is either broken, the motherboard itself is having issues, or it's a hard drive issue. I'm familiar with computer hardware to a certain degree yet I'm not sure what the problem of this is. It has been dusted out as
well. Another problem is internal stored games on the Xbox will not run either. According to him, the game will either go black, or run for a few seconds and freeze up which is very odd. This problem is obviously the hard drive or motherboard.

I give my dear apologies if this is set in the wrong sub-forum. If anybody could assist in this issue, that would be great.

reading trouble disk.

even on new disks (wich are also installed) so far, the only selution i have, is buying my games online and download them.

Hello,

First, as of Aug 2nd there is a problem with Xbox LIVE that my cause black screens for some users. See here:

I'm going to assume that your friends problems are unrelated however.

If the first issue (disc reading) was occurring by itself, then I'd would suspect a mechanical failure with the dvd drive. The fact that games on the hard drive fail as well however indicates that there is a larger issue: it is possible these are two separate
problems but it seems more likely there is a hardware fault with the motherboard itself.

Some questions:

- Does the dashboard ever freeze on its own?

- Did both problems appear at the same time?

- Do the issues occur all the time and right away, or after the console has been running for a bit?

You can try some basic trouble shooting:

- Try clearing the cache and retrying a game from the hard drive. See here:

If this does not work:

- Move your profile to the internal storage (if it is not already there)

- Power off the xbox and disconnect the internal hard drive

- Turn on the console

- Log into your profile

- Re download a small game (a trial is fine) and try this

All that said, the most likely culprit is a hardware problem which will require a phone call to 1-800-4MY-XBOX

MIne reads CDs with no trouble but has trouble reading games. If I open and close the tray a few times it eventually reads the game. I'm talking brand new games too.

I just want to clarify, does the error occurs in other disc games as well, or just specifically in Forza Horizon 4?

Also, do you experience the same issue with your digital games?

Kindly try to remove your account, restart your console and re-add your account then check to see if it works here's how to remove your account:

1.Press the Xbox button  to open the guide.

2.Select Profile & system > Settings > Account > Remove accounts.

3.Select the account that you want to remove, and then select Remove to confirm.

> Then restart your console and proceed with re-adding your account. You've got nothing to worry as this will not delete your saved data progress.

If it doesn't work, ensure the disc is clean and not defective:

Clean the disc with a soft, clean, slightly damp cloth. Hold the disc by the edges without touching the top or bottom surface.

Try playing the disc on another Xbox console:

Playing the disc on another console will help you figure out whether the problem is with the individual disc or the console's disc drive.

Have you cleaned your games lately? because I share my games with my children I make it a point to clean them about once a week. Only use water and a soft cloth (no paper towels!) and don't wipe them in a circular pattern (wipe out from the center). One
other question-any chance your discs are cracked? Even tiny cracks can make a disc unreadable.

Most likely silentkill is right and your disc reader is busted. Good Luck.
