Trouble with using 4 port HDMI Switcher with Xbox One.

Which you can also do with the Roku, on a separate port, or buy a switcher from amazon if you're out of ports.

Same as alien aeon, my wife and eldest daughter both scorned at the thought of saying Xbox on then Xbox watch tv just to watch tv but I also have 5 year old twins that turn the tv on and watch tv so that is the problem. I already have a hdmi splitter/switcher
coming from the tv for extra hdmi ports so would I plug the hdmi from the sky box straight into that or still into the Xbox one then a lead from Xbox one into the splitter/switcher ? Thanks for the help.

You can, I tried doing the same thing with multiple devices and it worked well. I plugged an hdmi switcher that I had into my xbox one and had my cable box and Apple TV plugged into the switcher (360 has a broken hdmi port) and everything still functioned.
I think the thing you have to watch out for is any possible lag

Make sure you are using a “high-speed” HDMI cable. If you’re using the standard cable that came with your Xbox One, you already are using one. Replacements are available for next to nothing in case something happens with the original.

Make sure the HDMI port on your television is HDMI 2.0a/HDCP 2.2-enabled. These are the only ports on your television that will be usable for 4K and HDR content. If you are using an HDMI switcher or AV receiver, make sure it is also HDMI 2.0a/HDCP 2.2-enabled.
This will allow you to plug several consoles into your television’s one or two compatible ports.

Wear and tear on the HDMI port would become an issue. I would go with a switch box. Connect the laptop and the console to the Switcher and the switcher connects to the monitor. Change inputs with the button on the switch box.
