Trouble with switching child account back to original (re: proper) Family group ...

    So, here's my dilemma;

Fortnight prompted my son to associate his Gamertag to an adult/family account. I mistakenly entered in my info for my "gmail" email account instead of my "hotmail" account.

My hotmail account is associated with my gamertag, has my daughter in the family group, and has been our Family Group for ages. Everything has worked fantastic, until right now trying to correct this bone headed mistake on my part.

Sending my son an invite back to the original family group gives me an error that he's associated to another family group. Logging into my son's microsoft account to try and leave the "gmail" family group gives me the error that the person who gave consent needs to perform the action. Logging into my "gmail" microsoft account to remove him from the family group (again, created in error) only gives me the same error ?!?

Can someone please tell me what I'm missing ?? How on earth do I get my original Family Group back ??

    :)

Trouble with switching child account back to original (re: proper) Family group ...

I figured it out ... Logging into the Microsoft website using my "gmail" credentials, I navigated to the Family Group.

I had to "remove consent" for my son FIRST, and then I was allowed to remove my son from the "gmail" family group. Logging back into my "hotmail" Family Group, I was able to add him back easy peasy.

    Parental permission

Are you possibly still under a family as a child?

There are two ways to be considered a child.

    1. DOB on account when it was originally setup. This will require the account to be setup in a family as a child account that would have an adult to control its options.

    2. If it was originally setup as a child in a family with a child account and it reaches the age of majority (18 in most countries) and is still under a family as a child account then it would still be considered a child account. To fix this you would just
need to sign in with the adult account at account.microsoft.com/family and remove yourself from the family.

This will put you into your own family as an adult AS LONG as your DOB when your account was originally setup is truly over the age of majority. If it is not then you would not be able to do anything on your account till you are added back to a family as
    a child account.

Cannot remove child from Microsoft Family group

    Hello DaneQq,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community.

Based on your description you're having trouble removing your child from the wrong Microsoft Family group. To remove your child from the family group, you will need to sign-in to the Microsoft account that granted consent for your child to join the family group. If you are the only adult on the account, you should be able to remove your child from the family group.

We would like to make sure we understand your concern correctly. Can we confirm if both of your accounts are an organizer of Microsoft Family?

Since you are getting this error message, you may need to access the Microsoft Family site on an InPrivate window or different browser. Please check if both are organizer and from what account your child/children were invited and added.

If you're still unable to remove your child from the family group, please let me know the answer to our question above.

    Sincerely,

    Microsoft Community Moderator

Adult daughter needs to be removed from my family group - but she's not there

Hi, my name is Marvina and I will be happy to help you.

I'm sorry you have this problem, researching on the internet I was able to find that in the forum, the independent advisor Geri M, recommends the following steps for a solution.

It sounds like you are having trouble removing a child from a family group and at the same time you as the organizer.

Let us check this together and resolve it to help your concern.

To remove a child from a family group, you must:

Click Manage my child's profile information and find your family member.

Select Remove consent for this child's account.

    Return to the family group.

Click More options below the family member you want to remove from your family group.

Select Remove from family group > Remove.

Only family group organizers can remove family members. Leave the family group or remove members - Microsoft Support.

    LISTED AS A CHILD ACCOUNT??!!

There are 2 ways that determines if your account is a child account or not.

    1. The DOB on the account when it was originally setup (requires account to be in a family as a child account) until the DOB reaches the age of majority 18 in most regions.

    2. If an account was under 18 and has reached the age of majority (18 in most countries) sometimes the system will glitch and not put them in their own family and if their account is still in a family as a child account then the account
will still see them as a child account until they sign in at account.microsoft.com/family and remove themselves from the family,

So in your friends case IF the DOB when his account was originally setup is above the age of majority and he is still showing as a child account then more than likely he is still in a family as a child account. If he is not in a family
and it is still saying that he is a child that means the DOB when his account was originally setup is still under the age of majority.

If your DOB on your account when it was originally setup is still considered under the age of majority and you remove yourself from a family as a child you will not be able to do anything on the account till you are added back to a
    family as a child account.
