    Trouble with content license transfer after exchanging defective hardware


    I recently purchased a 360 console and transferred my content licenses. Within 24 hours, the hard drive failed and I had to exchange it for another console. I am currently unable to transfer the licenses to the working console because of the 4 month restriction.
    I spent some time chatting with support online, but the agent seemed unable to understand the exact nature of the problem and just kept referring me to the general information page on the subject.

    I understand the point of the 4 month restriction under normal circumstances, but doesn't Microsoft make exceptions in cases where a defective console must be replaced? It seems rather ridiculous that a customer should be denied full access to their content
    for four months due to bad hardware. Has anyone had success getting a similar issue resolved in the past? If so, how was the issue resolved?

    Cannot play DLC on another NON-LIVE profile after transfer.

    Did you redownload the content after you did the license transfer or did you transfer it with the hard drive? After the license transfer you have to redownload the content.

    License transfer, unable to play games on local accounts

    Did you redownload the content after you performed the license transfer? If not, that should resync the licenses with the new console.

    I would give MS phone support another shot. Given the circumstances of a hardware failure, I would think they would be willing to reset that counter so you could perform another license transfer to the new device. Not sure if you actually filed a repair
    through https://myservice.xbox.com or just ate the cost and swapped. Let us know how another follow up goes.

    Please do as Elf said in his post above. But this time explain what happened and let them know you'd like to start a Manual License Transfer. It will take about a week or so for that to go through but that's a lot better than four months.

    It's better to do this via phone. If you live in North America dial 1-800-469-9269

    Please do as Elf said in his post above. But this time explain what happened and let them know you'd like to start a Manual License Transfer. It will take about a week or so for that to go through but that's a lot better than four months.

    Does Purchasing A Game Make that Console Licensed?

    It transfers all licenses you had at the time that you perform the transfer. When you buy content after performing the transfer, the license for that content will be attached to whatever console you purchase it on.
