  1. Trouble w/Resolution of Live TV

I recently connected my cable box to my Xbox One X. In the beginning, it was intuitive and worked fine. Now, when I turn on my cable box, it seems to be outputting content at 1080p or less. In comparison to a 4K (non-HDR/UHD) TV, my 4K HDR/UHD TV looks terrible.
Any words on the screen are very blurry/pixelated. I'm not sure how to adjust the communication between my Xbox, TV, and Cable box to resolve this formatting issue. Any ideas?

    I've tried:

    - restarting my cable box

    - " " Xbox

    - adjusting my TV settings

    - resetting my cable box/xbox connection (Settings > Device Control > Cable/Satellite)

    :)

  2. HDMI settings

You can also plug the xbox into the tv that works and set the resolution to 480i. This is the lowest HDMI setting, from there on you can connect the xbox to the tv you are having trouble with and up the resolution one step at a time to see what you maximum
    resolution on that tv is.

DirecTV genie + Xbox One = HD resolution randomly lost when watching DVR'd content

It still happens to me during live TV or DVR playback. If I rewind or fast forward a show all of a sudden the resolution shrinks down to 480. It doesn't happen everytime though. I've tried to change resolution when it happens but my DTV receiver saysy
TV doesn't support the resolution. It's a 1080p TV. I do notice the output signal from DTV is 1080i. Does the x1 support 1080i?

    Trouble w/Resolution of Live TV

Can you connect your cable box directly to the TV for testing purposes? Does the cable box provide a better picture when directly connected to the TV?

The Gold plating has nothing to do with 4k working or not. For 4k resolution at 60Hz refresh rate, you will need a HDMI cable that is certified to be able to transmit up to 18Gbit/sec.

HDMI 1.4 (gold plated or not) is only certified up to 10Gbit/sec, which only allows 4k resolution at 24/30Hz refresh rate (or 60Hz, if a reduced colorspace is used).

Only HDMI2.0 can deliver 4K resolution at 60Hz with standard or HDR colorspace. And it doesn't matter if the connectors are gold plated or not. What matters is how the wires inside the cable are shielded and can safely transmit those high frequency digital
    signals needed for 18GBit/s properly.

Not having a plug that starts to rust because of the gold plating is only a bonus. However, if you constantly unplug and then re-insert the gold plated cable, it's possible to scratch the gold plating, allowing the bare metal under the plating to corrode.
