Trouble transferring content from old 320GB hard drive to new 500GB hard drive

I just bought the new 500GB drive for the XBox 360. Also bought the official transfer cable. Now I'm attempting to upgrade my 320 to the 500; but am encountering problems. Specifically, at some point during the content transfer, a spinning circle appears
and the copy just stops. Eventually, the system powers down on its own; and I need to restart my console and resume the transfer, where it eventually happens again during the transfer and I repeat the process after it eventually shuts down again.

I'm really hoping my old or new drive isn't damaged. Is there anything I can do to fix this?

Having multiple issues with Xbox.

Will getting a new hard drive, reformatting it, then transferring all my old content to the new hard drive work?

 

Xbox 360 Slim Hard Drive

I was trying to transfer my memory from my old hard drive to my 320GB Hard Drive via a transferring cable. I inserted the new slim hard drive first, transferred all the data from my old one. Now my 320GB can't be read by my Xbox unless if It's plugged into
the transfer cable and not the console itself.

I'm convinced it's bricked. But I don't want to buy another one. Is there any way to fix a bricked Xbox 360 hard drive?

Any solution would help.

 

There is no official 500gb hard drive for the 360. 320gb was the largest they made.

 

Smwutches, that isn't correct. MS released a new 500GB hard drive for the 360 this week; it came out Friday.

Ah, I was not aware they were releasing one. However, by the looks of it, it has not been released yet it was just announced a few days ago. The site you linked does state that pre-orders are coming soon. So the 500gb you have now wouldn't be an official
hard drive.

Do you have the "Auto Power down" setting disabled on your Xbox? If not your Xbox will auto shutdown. I think the default setting is to shutdown after 6 hours. I hope it is not taking that long to transfer 320 GB to a 500GB disk.
