Trouble racing in Forza Apex on PC

A quick bit about me. I have 360's and a One. I've played Forza from 1 - 6 and Horizon 2. I use an Xbox One controller wirelessly with my PC, which is an Alienware 17 R3 with 970m video card, 8GB of RAM, and 3 storage drives including a 500GB m.2 SSD
for the OS and game installs.

I understand you can't just put your foot down and expect to get off the line quickly in the game. You'll spin your tires, have little to no traction, and you get a *** start. But I've tried playing the first "race" (the old school muscle car "Pony" one)
over and over, and I can't get a good start. In truth, my start with the Ford GT wasn't better, but being just a "first drive" and not a race... whatever. Got 3rd, completed the first event. fine.

But now I'm racing and I'm still having trouble. When I'm lucky there is still a car behind me after the start of the race. Most of the time they all pass me before I get up to speed. I'm playing on inexperienced to see if that makes a difference, but
it hasn't thus far. I also tried turning off the all "Auto" help everything assists, and that made no difference. So what's the deal? Is it a problem with the Xbox One controller? Is anyone else having trouble? Obviously I'd love to upgrade my ram, and
put a dedicated desktop video card in my Alienware Amp (no external video card yet). But I just got this system, it isn't paid for yet, and I might need to wait a little longer. Besides, the 1080 card looks like it will be pretty choice.

Any help getting started in races is appreciated.
