Trouble playing Pitfall-The Lost Expedition on 360

I'm having trouble playing Pitfall-The Lost Expedition on the xbox 360. I have the disc, xbox 360S with newly installed 250GB HD. Before installing the hard drive I got a message, while trying to load the game, stating "This game requires a xbox 360 HD.
Our console originally did not have a Hard drive. The hard drive installed fine, and does say "Microsoft" next to it when viewing in storage devices. Now when trying to load the game I get the "The game couldn't start. Try downloading the game again". Any
help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time.

Ah yes! Pitfall. One of my personal favorites. I prefered Pitfall II but spent hours playing it on my commador 64. Lol it was a portable. Giant thing with a hard road case lol. Pitfall II will be the first game I purchase.

Did you purchase the hard drive brand new from a retailer or through a third party, like ebay or used?

Knock-offs can look very convincing and do seem to work fine until you try playing an original Xbox game.

 

I bought the hard drive on amazon.com. It does say "microsoft" when looking at the storage devices available, but I don't know if that validates it.

 

Was it directly from Amazon or from a third party through Amazon?

If you have access to another original Xbox game, you can try that to see if it works and try to rule out the hard drive.

 

I tried two other original xbox games..neither worked, and displayed the same error. So, you're thinking hard drive? Well that sucks. Thanks for your help though.

 

It was a third party called "better quality".

 

Yeah, it's the hard drive. If it's not a brand new hard drive from an actual retailer (and a lot cheaper) it's usually a knock off. They will look and act very convincing, but they don't have the emulation software required to run the original games.
