Trouble playing digitally owned games

There's no way around needing to own the games digitally in order to play them on a Series S. So if you own a game on disc, you would have to buy it digitally in order to play it.

Did you own it on disk? In order to play it, the disk needs to be in the drive to prove you own the game. Since the Series S doesn't have a disk drive, you would need to own it digitally in order to be able to play it. Since the game is no longer available for digital purchase, there would be no way to play it on the Series S unless you had previously purchased it digitally.

I own the disc and did not download a digital version, just got off the phone with xbox support the person told me they are having trouble with the servers, said it's a global issue and nobody can play the game. He told me they are working on it and I should
try to play it again in 3 or 4 hours. I don't understand why I can't play it if I own the disc, he told me even though I own the disc I still have to go through their servers...

You would need a digital license in order to play the game on the all digital console. The only way to do that, would be to own the game digitally.

Hello! Unfortunately in this case because you own the game on disc you will not be able to use it on the digital only xbox one s. You would need to own the digital version of the game in order for it to be played on the digital only console.
