Trouble playing an online game with friend

I'm fairly new to X-Box online gaming, but I'm having an issue playing Fifa 20 with a friend.

Here are the facts :-

We both have X-Box Gold Live

We can both join a party

We can both play Fifa 20 against online random players

We can't for some reason play each other.

The option to 'join a game' when in a party is greyed out. When in Fifa 20, we can get to a point where whoever starts the game, see the other person as 'ready' but the person who tries to join seems to be endlessly loading.

Our NAT connection is open, we seem to have no restrictions so I can't work out why we can't join.

Is this an X-Box issue or Fifa 20 issue?

Thanks DakkaRaptor. I did try the cache clearing, but it didn't seem to work. I will have to read up on the remove and re-add the accounts. I'm a bit nervous about that, but I will read up on it. Thanks.

From the facts you listed, I would say that everything seems to be good. One question I have is which game mode are you trying to play together?

As far as I understand, there are a few online modes you can play:

Ultimate Team
Co-op Seasons
Pro Clubs

The following modes only allow for local (couch) Co-op:

Volta
Kick Off

Understanding which mode you want to play will help towards figuring out a solution.

Since it's Co-op seasons try this method and see if it helps.

Head to the Online part of the main menu and choose the friend you want to invite to a new season.

From here, choose your team and get started.

I'm curious to see if other games allow you both to play together.

I also don't believe you should encounter any issues having different Xbox models.

One thing that may be worth exploring is the OS version that you each have on your consoles, but I don't think we need to dive into that before we explore other options. Keep us posted and hopefully we can figure this out.

Thanks EVIL Volition. We are trying to do the Co-op Seasons.

We are in the process of installing a racing game to see if that works, in which case, maybe it's a Fifa thing, but I have a feeling it's an X-Box thing.

Do you think it matters that we have an early model X-Box, and my friend has a newer X-Box S?
