    trouble playing a game on the Windows 10 xBox App


    My son is a family member attached to my Microsoft account. I purchased Subnautica in 2017, and it works fine on the xBox. My son has also installed it on his PC, and, whilst the xBox App shows that he owns it, and allows him to install and play it, the game will only run as a trial version for 30 minutes, after which it asks him to pay for it. If I sign in, it works OK as a non-trial version. Is this expected behaviour? if not, any clues how to fix it so he can play it?

    Why is there an xbox companion app and an xbox app for PC? Just put all the features in one app.

    Hello amramlinebarger, sorry to hear you're having trouble.

    The Xbox Console Companion app is mainly for Windows 10 and allows you to stream your Xbox One to One X consoles on Windows 10. This app does not work with the Series X/S consoles though and the Xbox app is recommended for streaming to your PC if you're running Windows 11.

    If you are running Windows 11 the only way we'd ask you to try installing the app is if you were having trouble with your Xbox games just to see if that would help.

    If you have Windows 10 there actually is no need for the Windows Live app anymore. That app is to play games on Xbox Live if you had any of the earlier versions, like Windows 8.1 or Windows 8.
    This is 100% wrong.

    The Games for Windows Live (GFWL) App is still required if you want to play games that require it. Shadowrun, the Batman games (if you're not playing the Steam port), etc.

    Since you mentioned a Live ID, I suspect that it is GFWL that's the issue, but I could be wrong.
