Trouble Connecting to XBL From Dorm Room

Hey guys! I recently moved into a dorm room and havent been able to connect to XBL since. When I test the network connection everything is good until it gets to the xbox live part. Now, ive tried clearing cache, resetting to factory defaults, deleting then
re downloading my profile but nothing works! i spoke with an Xbox representative and they said that some ports on the router may not be open. I dont really know what that means and was wondering if there was any way to open them. The problem is that i dont
have access to the router. Can someone help me get it working again?

Xbox live in college dorm help?!

I am having trouble connecting to Xbox live in my college dorm room. My colleges Internet is very secure and thats what is causing the issue. I have an Ethernet port in my room. Some help would be very much appreciated,

Net connection in dorms and hotels have limited access to the service. Since the local administrator of the network is someone else you are not able to open the ports in your router and hence the service of xbox live is not available for that kind of connection.

Wire goes directly to the wall. I cant reset the router/modem because I am in a dorm room. All the setting are set to automatic. Im hearing other people on campus are having trouble with wired connection on their 360, but not wireless.

Do you have a router and a modem? Or, does your wired connection go directly into the dorm room wall? Please advise.

As Onyx mentioned, there's always a good start, to talk with the IT depertment of your school and ask them if the firewall has any rule restrictions regarding port 3074, for Xbox traffic.

If you have a third-party firewall installed on your computer, disable this and use Windows firewall instead.

Xbox 360 as the Xbox One, do not support
802.1x, for the authentication process.

That's exactly what the issue is. You should talk to the school's internet administrator to see if they can help connect the console.
