  1. Trigger Torx Screw

    Just a quick question:

How important is the torx screw in the triggers?

I've had my controller since the beginning of the year, and when I picked it up for play this evening I noticed that the right trigger wouldn't compress entirely. I gave it a little shake to see if I could hear anything loose, but nothing, so I slid small
bit of paper around the inner edge and heard something fall loose inside. The trigger now compresses completely and I believe is back at full function, but after a Google search I realized it's likely the torx screw came loose and was blocking the trigger.

Is this going to be a problem, or will it be fine and I'll just have the minor inconvenience of a loose bit rattling around freely in the base of the controller?

    :)

Anyone had luck with drum replacement?

I had the black wire come loose on the back of my red pad - eventually the whole pad became unresponsive - it's very easy to open the drums up and resolder it - depending on your kit it will either have phillips screws or T15 torx screws holding it together - I picked up a 6 screwdriver Torx kit from Maplin - took about an hour to do being really carefull too

    Xbox controller left trigger sticks

Had the same problem. Day one the left trigger was physically stuck. After applying some pressure and wiggling around a bit it released and started working fine for a couple of months. Then one day it got stuck again. So I did the same thing to free it up
and it worked for a couple of months. Today the trigger was logically stuck ON making it impossible to play some games. Since the warranty is only a whopping 90 days I decided to open it up.

You can pull the side panels of the controller off with your fingers. This exposes a slight view of the trigger switch. What I found was a loose screw magnetically stuck to the magnet that makes up the trigger switch. What was happening was if the screw
was stuck between the magnet and the PC board it prevented the trigger from closing. If the screw was moved to the side, but still stuck to the magnet, the trigger worked fine. With some small pliers I was able to remove the screw.

Unfortunately this did not fix my logically stuck trigger. I think what happened was after months of the screw moving around in there it scraped up the circuit board breaking the circuit.

I took the controller apart further to see if my theory was correct. (FYI in addition to the four screws under the side pieces, there is a screw under the battery compartment sticker.) I didn't see any obvious damage from the screw but I can't see what's
causing the broken circuit. I didn't see any places where the loose screw could have come from.

If you have a sticking trigger you might want to open up the side and see if it is a loose screw before it gets worse like mine.

Metal is correct if it doesn't affect your gaming I don't see why it would be an issue. If you do start to have issues and want to see what kind of advantages your warranty has please

I just want that solid feeling I got from the 360 controller, all it needs is 4 torx screws in the back.

If the controller is no longer under warranty you can clean it yourself. You will need a special anti-theft torx though to remove one of the screws in the controller so you can take the entire top plate off. Clean around the button with a cotton swab
    with rubbing alcohol on it.
