  1. Transition from TV to Monitor for Xbox One

I was looking to transition to a monitor for my XB1 for gaming. I was wondering what other peripherals are needed/suggested when making this change beyond just finding a good gaming monitor. Seems like big concern would be how to get the audio.

I am looking to have it set up on an HDMI switch so that we can use in on the TV for Netflix/other non-gaming. Then move to the Monitor for gaming. Without having to unplug/replug stuff in.

A pie-in-the-sky wish would be to have the XB1 in the living room with the TV, but have the monitor in another room and play in there (while not moving XB1). Seems like this would need a long HDMI or Wireless HDMI. Wireless controllers work fairly far

If anyone has done something similar, suggestions and pitfalls are greatly appreciated. Looking for more general hardware needs rather then specific brands/models used.

    :)

Transition from TV to Monitor for Xbox One

As the Xbox One is a 1080p device you will want a 1080p monitor, higher resolutions are available such as QHD/1440p aka 2K and true 4K displays, these are probably a waste as the XB1 cannot natively output these resolutions.

The LCD display panels are typically TN and IPS, most TV's are IPS or some kind of similar technology this is what you should aim for with a monitor. IPS offers wide view angles and good colours and reasonable response times, it should be no different from
    your big LCD TV.

TN is also common on PC it is often marketed at gamers but has huge trade offs, it is really meant for twitch PC gamers (people who play things like Counter Strike), TN has ultra low response times, is cheap but has crappy colours and viewing angles.

HDMI is present on most computer displays these days along with an audio output (3.5mm cable) for speakers. Actual built in speakers are not common and don't expect much in the way of quality.

BenQ are a well known PC display manufacture, checkout their website as it lists all of the features and panel types, plus they are reasonably priced. They have a gaming line but these are all TN, (unless TN is what your after), their home and office sections
lists IPS displays, both product lines feature HDMI and speakers.

As to the other option avoid wireless HDMI it is terrible, it has a very short range and is unreliable. HDMI signal repeaters over CAT6 network cable do exist and would be the ideal way to extend the video but this tech does not come cheap and would require
network cables being run to each room.

A far easier option assuming you have a Windows 10 PC is simply use the built in streaming feature of the Xbox app on Windows, however this is not well suited towards online or competitive games due to the lag/delay but for single player games it is good.

Xbox one black screen after startup

    Hello Izzieee,

Thank you for posting here on the Xbox forums. We have a list of troubleshooting steps for this issue that you can find here : Troubleshooting
a blank TV screen or monitor while your Xbox One is on

From the looks of it, the only step you haven't performed would be checking on a different TV. Are you able to test that out? A computer monitor will work as well as long as it supports HDMI.

If it works fine on a different TV/Monitor, then there are some settings you would have to adjust on your TV to get it to work with the Xbox. I would recommend getting support from your TV manufacturer at that point.

    Hope this helps!
