Transferring settings backup from Xbox One to new Xbox One X

    Hi,

When transferring a settings backup from Xbox One to a new Xbox One X, could someone please tell me if I first have to save the backup to an external HD and then connect the drive to the Xbox One X while setting it up or can I simply connect the two consoles
together via ethernet when setting up the new system?

    Thank you!

    Joe

    :)

Transferring settings backup from Xbox One to new Xbox One X

    Create your backup:

Connect a USB storage device to your existing Xbox One.

    1. Note Storage must be USB 3.0 or faster and 256 GB or larger. Make sure it’s designated for use with Xbox One games and apps.
    2. Press the Xbox button on your controller to open the guide and go to
      System > Settings > System >
      Backup & transfer
      > Back up my settings, and then follow the on-screen instructions to save your backup to your storage device.

If you’re transferring settings from your existing Xbox to a new Xbox

    1. Connect the storage device to your new Xbox before you turn it on.
    2. Turn on the new Xbox.
    3. Follow the on-screen instructions.

If the new Xbox is already set up and you want to configure it using the backed-up settings from your other Xbox, keep the storage device connected and go to
    System > Settings > System >
    Console info
    and choose Reset console.

Change Xbox One account to new Xbox Series X with different email

Yes, you can change your Xbox One account to a new Xbox Series X with a different email address. Here are the steps to do so:

Create a new Microsoft account: Go to account.microsoft.com and create a new Microsoft account with a different email address. This will be your new Xbox account.

Transfer content: On your Xbox One, go to Settings > System > Backup and restore. Select "Back up to the cloud" and follow the on-screen instructions to transfer your content to the new account.

Download transferred content: On your Xbox Series X, sign in with your new Microsoft account and download the transferred content from the "Ready to install" section of your Games & Apps.

Deactivate your Xbox One: Go to Settings > Accounts > Xbox One, select "My Account," and then select "Deactivate this Xbox." This will deactivate the Xbox One and prevent anyone from using it with your old account.

Note: Some games and DLC may not be transferable, so be sure to check the Xbox support website for more information. If you continue to experience issues with transferring your account and content, you can contact Xbox support for further assistance.

How do I back up my game saves?

Hi, as already stated, game save are cloud based and as such you don't need to do athing. You can use the features at settings>system>backup and transfers to save your Xbox settings and transfer your games on to your external hard drive. You then just
plug that into your new Xbox One X, start it up and follow the online screen prompts and it will be set up exactly as your current Xbox is.

    Moving to Xbox One X

    Hi Lard,

Congrats on upgrading!! You will love your new Xbox one X. Here is a step by step video on how to backup your original Xbox
one settings before upgrading to your new console. Also make sure to move any installed games in the internal storage
to the external hard drive. Once the backup is completed, all you have to do is connect your external drive to the new console before turning it on and follow the instructions on the screen. The Xbox will detect the backed up settings and will ask if you
    want to apply them.

    Happy gaming!

How can I backup (NOT transfer or make default install) games to an external HDD

The most recent update added the feature of network transfer to Xbox One consoles
No this can NOT be used for backup since it "transfers" meaning MOVE content from source to target.

Since everything at source is DELETED you do NOT have a backup.
