    Transferring my Xbox Live account to a different Microsoft Account


    I followed the instructions I found via google
    here    , but I could not follow them as a problem occurs at step 2, because when I create the new temporary Microsoft Account, it auto-generates a gamertag to associate with it, and so is not free for me to switch to.

    The entire purpose for my wanting to do this is that I want to cancel the Xbox Live Gold membership associated with my gamer tag, but for some reason when I sign into my Microsoft Account that my Gamertag is associated with, it pulls up my brother's gamertag.
    The e-mail address was originally his, and somehow both of our Xbox Live accounts got linked to it, but I can only access his.

    It shouldn't be auto-generating a gamertag. Try setting up a Microsoft Account at signup.live.com, do NOT sign into it anywhere else until you swapped the account.

    Thanks. My problem must have been that I was trying to make the new account here, instead of @live.com.

    So I guess a better question would be, are DLC licenses tied to the specific xbox live account that bought them, or the gamertag associated with that account?

    If one transfers a gamertag using these steps (support.xbox.com/.../switch-gamertag-to-different-microsoft-account),
    does that transferred gamertag have access to the download history of the account it was just transferred to?
