Transferring Gamertag + profile to my current MS account

Long ago I had a gamertag linked to my personal email MSN account (original xbox era), and several years ago I started using a different email for professional things in general, so when I started buying MS products and software my professional email became
my dominant account for those things.

I bought a new laptop with Windows 8, and when I pull up games, surprise (to me at least) we've integrated xbox live profiles into PC games. Windows: Hey that's ok we'll create a gamertag for you automatically. Me: uh thanks?

I look into merging accounts (no options I saw) they killed linked accounts... I found a page that had a process to put it together, but it only works if you don't have a gamertag on the target account already. That rules me out because MS was in such a
hurry to make everything easy they didn't even stop for a second to ask what I'd want my gamertag to be.

It is a real shame to see them design all this integration of everything digital, but it is totally unworkable retroactively. Kind of takes the wind out of my sails about all of it.

If someone has a solution, hooray and thank you. All I want from my old MS account is the gamertag. No emails, no other products etc. Zero overlap in any other dept. and all I want to alter with my current MS account is wipe away my Xbox profile they automatically
made for me tonight, and plop in my old gamertag/achievements.

    :)

  3. Transferring Gamertag

Gamertags can't be deleted. You could change your current gamertag to something else, then have another MS account and change it to the original gamertag. However, you would still be faced with paying the gamertag change fee for the original account which
is what I believe you are wanting to avoid.

    Hello WarmedFive7

Not sure if you found a solution, but the way it is designed it makes it near on impossible.

The Gamertag that is linked to a different e-mail address is linked to the e-mail address aside from the one linked to your e-mail address you otherwise use in general for professional things. So basically the problem you said you are having is you cannot
merge that e-mail address (associated with the gamertag) because it has active services on.

Here is the best I can suggest and although you have probably heard of this before it can be a bit tricky.

    Steps in order

    1. Create a new Microsoft Account NOTE: It will have to be registered for a minimum of around 30 days in age. NOTE: If you have a spare Microsoft Account linked with no services that is at least 30 days of age this would be more suitable.

    2. Download your profile to your Xbox 360 (preferably) and leave it on there for a minimum of 30 days.

    3. Do not attempt to recover this profile within 30 days (I assume you don't want to use this one, so I'm sure you will not anyway)

    1. Sign in to your profile on your Xbox 360 console.

    2. Go to Settings and select Account.

    3. Scroll right to Your Information and select Account Security.

    4. Select Change Microsoft account, and then select Yes.

    5. Enter the password for the Microsoft account that's currently associated with your gamertag, and 6. 6. then select Sign in.

    7. Enter the email address and the password for the new Microsoft account that you want to associate with your gamertag, and then select Sign in.

    8. Select Yes, change to continue.

    9. Select Update Contact Information to update your contact information or Done to finish.

It should then free up the Professional E-mail (Gamertag) and move it's associated with the other e-mail address thus removing the Gamertag from your professional E-mail.

When that process is complete you should then be able to link/merge your Xbox Gamertag E-mail with your Professional E-mail.

I do however suggest that you get a second opinion through Xbox Customer Support. To do this please visit
    support.xbox.com/contact-us

To add on to ngocphi's post, the
    MS Account/Gamertag Transfer FAQ
states: "When you change to a new Microsoft account, the current funds in your original Microsoft account do not transfer to your new Microsoft account." Hope this helps! If you have any other questions or concerns
please let us know. Thank you,

Change email associate to Xbox profile

So basically you are wanting to start over with a new gamertag/xbox profile on the same Microsoft Account.

Are you wanting to do this so that you can start over on achievements in games or what?

There is no way to transfer your current gamertag/xbox profile to an old MS account.

You can create a new account and set your console as your current profiles Home console that way you can play the games that the original account owns on the new account and start over that way.

Can you help me with something?

    Bleak,

Not sure if I understand your question. You want to cancel your account but keep everything? What is the end result you are looking for? As it currently stands your MS points/local currency can't be transferred from one MS account to another. If you are
wanting to change MS accounts then you can use
    this guide
to make the change, but please keep in mind that the local currency (formerly MS points) to
NOT transfer to the new MS account. If you can let us know some extra details we will be more than glad to try and help you out.

How to transfer XBox Live account to another Microsoft Account

    BulletRouge hey there :)

The only way to currently transfer a gamertag to a different microsoft account is on the Xbox 360. My advice would be to download your profile on a 360 console, either your own (if you have one) or a friends and then make the transfer using

    THIS
    guide.

    I hope this helps.

    Many thanks,
