Transferring gamer profile from 360 to xbox one

My son is trying to transfer his gamer profile from xbox 360 to a new xbox one. We have saved the profile on to a usb, checked it is there, then when we plug the usb into the xbox one there is nothing there to transfer.

So I shared an Xbox 360 console with a sibling and we each had our own profiles. So I purchased a new 360 Slim and wanted to take everything associated with my account on the initial console (profile, achievements, game saves) to the Slim.

I transferred everything on a USB but although my profile and achievements transferred onto the USB and loads on the Slim, no game saves to be found.

What can I do to harvest the game saves from the original console without causing problems to my sibling's account and content on the original system?

You cannot transfer via USB. You need the account's email address and password and then you simply sign in with those details on the Xbox One and the profile and all its information transfer across instantly.

I thought you could transfer via usb. We followed instructions from this site about how to do it.

The problem is when he started using the xbox one he had forgotten his password. He created a new password and signed in but another gamer profile of his came up (an old one) which he doesn't want to use. It looks like he has two profiles attached to the
same email address.

 

Hmmmm, now he tells me he created a new profile with the same email address because he didn't know he could just sign in and his profile would transfer. He wants his old one back.

 

You should call support (1-800 4MY-XBOX) if you have an issue where you can't remember the email attached to the account you want to use.

But to clarify, you can share your Live account across both your Xbox one and your 360 (verified this week with my own experience). The same log in will work in both. There is no need for a usb transfer. After you get your account fixed via support you
can log into either console with the same account. There is just one thing to know: Only one console at a time can be logged into this account. In other words, if you log into the Xbox one, it will log you out of the 360 and vice versa.

The USB transfer is for moving a profile between two Xbox 360 profiles, not a 360 and a One.

You will want to contact Microsoft Support for the dual accounts as they should be able to look into the account and sort it out for you:

As CapnPhoton notes and I said earlier, you are able to use the same login details on the One and 360 for the same profile. However, you *can* be logged into both the One and 360 at the same time with the same account without issue (but if you log into a
second One, you get logged out of the first; or logging into a second 360 logs you out of the first 360). It has been like that since Launch, and something I do frequently.
