transferring content from 1 xbox to another for only 1 profile

My sons had 1 xbox 360 console for both of them. Now I purchased a new console for 1 of them for Christmas, so they could each have their own. When my son signed into his live acct all of his previous games weren't there. So I have
purchased a transfer cable. I am concerned that transferring content will erase my other sons games and content from the original xbox. Does it give you the option of only transferring 1 profile, or will it wipe out the original xbox?

Hi, to transfer content licences associated with your console you must sign in to the console with the profile used to purchase the content. Once signed in go to Settings > account > billing options and select licence transfer following the on screen instructions to transfer the licences to the new console so other profiles can use the content. Content can not be transfered across profiles only across consoles - hope this helps

To add to SirSuperKnight's post... Remember that after you do the license (DRM) transfer from Xbox 1 to Xbox 2, your profile will be the only one with access to the downloaded/DRM transfered content on Xbox 1. Any future items you purchase on Xbox 1 will
be open to all profiles until you do another DRM transfer.

You can't do that i'm afraid.

Both profiles would need to be on the same console to play any downloaded games.

The downloaded items are linked to the account that bought them so if you moved one of your sons profiles to another 360 then you would need to buy the content again for them both to be able to use it.

 

It's not so much the games we are wanting to transfer but the progress he has made in any games. Does the progress you've made in a game go with your console or with your profile.

 

Ah,I see.If they shared the same profile then there's nothing you can do,you can't split a game save.

If they have separate profiles then you would need a compatible usb drive & move the saves for his profile onto that & then onto the new consoles hard drive.

A transfer cable moves everything,you cant just move specific items as far as I know.

Saves are profile specific & can't be moved from one profile to another so the son moving to the new console would only be able to move/use the saves linked to his profile.

 

A transfer cable doesn't move everything--It lets you select what you want moved. Certain demos, profiles, game saves, etc.
