Transferring account to a new console

I am a parent who is happy to admit that I really do not understand much about the Xbox.

I have purchased an Xbox One S for my son for Christmas.

He already has one that he uses (new one has bigger storage) but he will get the new one and my younger son will inherit the other one.

Will he need to transfer anything over to the new one or can he just log into his account on the new one?

If he does need to transfer anything is this a simple procedure?

Any help/advice would be much appreciated.

Transfer data question.

Hi, to transfer content licences associated with your console you must sign in to the console with the profile used to purchase the content. Once signed in go to Settings > account > billing options and select licence transfer following the on screen instructions to transfer the licences to the new console so other profiles can use the content. Content can not be transfered across profiles only across consoles - hope this helps

 

Xbox 360 system transfer HELP

So I shared an Xbox 360 console with a sibling and we each had our own profiles. So I purchased a new 360 Slim and wanted to take everything associated with my account on the initial console (profile, achievements, game saves) to the Slim.

I transferred everything on a USB but although my profile and achievements transferred onto the USB and loads on the Slim, no game saves to be found.

What can I do to harvest the game saves from the original console without causing problems to my sibling's account and content on the original system?

 

Hey there, it is very simple.

He does not need to transfer anything. You just need to log in with the account (email and password) that used on the old console, and all the game saves, purchases and games will be automatically available on the console!

You will just need to re-download games on the new one. (If you want to avoid re-download of the games

you can transfer all the games to an external HDD)

One last thing, you may want to set the Xbox Home of the profile to the new xbox, so that all the purchases are also available offline.

If I might give you a bit of advice concerning the Home Console setting that Sanana94 mentioned:

Games you buy digitally on Xbox are tied to the account that purchased them. But the owner of the games can designate ONE Xbox One console as their "Home Console", and allow that one console to share their games with everyone playing on that console.

So if your older son has a lot of games that your younger son might also want to play, ask your older son to NOT set the new console as his Home Console.

Since the older son "owns" the games on his account, he can always play those games as long as he is connected online on any console he wants to play on.

If your older son sets his new console as his Home Console, the younger brother would have to buy all the games for himself again.

So, since they are brothers, it would be a nice "brotherly" thing to do, to keep the old console as his "Home Console" and allow his younger brother to play the games he owns.

Also, if you don't own an external USB hard drive, the console's can also transfer the games via your Home network. And as a last resort, your son can simply download the games again to his console from the Internet.

But just make sure your son uses the same account as before!
