Transfer saves to different account

So here's what happened. I performed a gamer tag change on my Xbox one. Then I attempted to sign in to my account on the Xbox 360. It wouldn't let me sign in online because I no longer have the gamer tag. It asked me for my Microsoft account info and when
I entered it, that's when it failed. I was able to recover my account using the download profile function.

This is where it got difficult. It kept my old account with the old gamer tag and put in a new account on the 360 for the updated name change. What I need is to get the original account updated to the new gamer tag so I can continue to use my existing game
saves. I want to transfer the saves to cloud storage for use with the backwards compatibility.

Is there a way to change what account owns the save file? My friend has a different account on 360 than on X1 but wants to transfer characters.

You can't transfer save games among different accounts

 

Well thing is you dont use your gamertag to download your account you use your login details

And no you cant transfer saves to another accilount

 

Each 360 account can be associated with a Live account.

Currently I have:

old 360 account -> associated with my Live account but with the old gamertag

new 360 account -> associated with my Live account but with the new gamertag

The new account got created when I downloaded my profile using my microsoft sign in. The old account was associated with the same microsoft sign in but it didn't recognize my gamertag change. Now it won't let me sign in to live because it asks for my microsoft
sign in details. I'm guessing the sign in fails because it's trying to find the microsoft account associated with the old gamertag.

I either need to somehow transfer my saves over to the new 360 account so I can upload them to the cloud, or I need someway for my Xbox to realize that my gamertag changed on the old account so I can sign into live again with that account.

So how do I get the first account to update to the new gamer tag? I don't need the saves to be transferred to a different gamertag. I just want to be able to sign in on my 360 and have access to the saves that I made before the gamertag change.

 

Wow such a simple solution to this. Upon rebooting my 360, it merged the two accounts and now everything is working as it should. Seems like it needed the reboot to identify that the recovered account was the same that was already stored locally beforehand.

Looks like my previous post didn't go through. I figured it out. The Xbox just needed a reboot. Once I booted it up a second time it realized that the two local accounts were referencing the same gamertag and merged them. Now everything is working fine as
it should and I have access to all my saves once again.

 

Reboot fixed it. On the reboot it merged the two local accounts and now I have access to my saves as usual.
