Transfer from and close unused account

My son has two accounts and one was supposed to be closed when I contacted Microsoft to turn his new account into a child one as he had it as an adult. I did not realise it was still there and when I just put money on his account this morning I have put
it into the unused account instead of the used one. I need this money transferred to the used account and other closed.

We tried both ways, to buy a gift card or by the item he wanted and gift to his other account, neither will work.
