Tracking a (possibly) stolen XBox.

I know this has been discussed on a previous thread but I would like to expand the envelope somewhat. I recently ordered an used XBox One X from an individual in the Philadelphia area. I can produce any and all appropriate web pages, authentication,
emails and a point of contact with a moderator of said trading website along with a picture of the serial number of the XBox One X I'm looking for. It was shipped a week later via USPS with a tracking number. The only scanned info for the package was at
the departure post office. USPS sent notice of an estimated three-day transit. After five days I put in a request to track the package - at no time was any scan info provided except for the post office from which it departed. Three days after the request
I received a notice saying that my problem was "solved" but they didn't actually find my package. In fact, they told me what I already knew - no scan info past the departure point. It appears they didn't do a very thorough investigation. This seems to be
a new meaning of the word "solved" of which I'm not aware...

So what I am asking is this: when an XBox logs in online and is registered, does Microsoft get or know the serial number of the machine? If that info is available, is there some way to relay that to the actual owner or local law enforcement? I'm not
suggesting Microsoft providing personal info to the owner but enough info to get the owner to call the appropriate local law enforcement so they can take things from there. Thanks!
