Tower electric fences question

When im playing alone I cant work the tower fences but when my friend comes in my game he can.....if I join his game I can use the tower fences but he cant...we both have the fence skill...weird....I don't get it.

Electric fence in tower

You just need to be relatively close to the entrance. Then the prompt to use the trap should appear.

You do need to be fairly close though, almost standing on to of the trap, before it will work.

I'm pretty sure that you an use it any time after the quest where they get you to go and activate all of the traps for the night run, which is the first quest in the game.

Electric fence in tower

how do use the electric fences in the tower...there are two entrances that have fences in the tower...I have seen people activate the fences but I cant...I have the fence perk....is it a bug?

you have to be far enough out that a zombie can reach you if you are inside the tower, and the closest to it gets the prompt, so both of you wont get it

when were you able to activate it?....right from the start of your game? or did you have to do a certain quest first?

I activate it everytime i enter the tower,just for "fun"...Never had any problems with it,and actually,i havent even unlocked the electric fence skill yet(campaign 58%)
