    TOTALLY DISSAPOINTED

Ive been an Xbox gamer since the original came out. Never thought about going back to PLAYSTSTION until tonight. My console must have been hit by a surge during the last storm I've had my 1 S since Jan 2017 so not even a year and a half. Because they have
an internal power supply and surge protector I can't plug it in to a surge protector of my own. There fore it requires a 3 week $130 service to replace whatever might be wrong with it because it wasonly warrantied for a year. The representative I talked too
did a great job trying to help me but customer policy prohibited doing anything at all. I could easily pay for them to fix it (only to chance further mishaps due to no more warranty) or buy a new one that may last a bit longer than a year like the last one.

I am EXTREMELY DISSAPOINTED in these policies and the overall QUALITY of these products. I don't need handouts but I also don't want to spend $400+ a year on consoles alone, to game. I will continue to game however I highly doubt I will ever use a Microsoft
    product again.

XBOX SHOULD SERIOUSLY RECONSIDER THE QUALITY OF THEIR COMPONENTS AND MAYBE REVISIT DESIGNS!

    :)

Totally agree with you Mexicola. I used to really like Game and it's support. Now I just seem really dissapointed with how they've handled the change of the site ect. Very poorly done.

Unfortunately that can happen with any type of electronic device these days. I would suggest getting battery backups for your electronics.

You can't plug it into another surge protected unit because it can weaken power flow to the Xbox is what they told me

Battery backups usually have a part that is battery only and one part that is battery + surge. If you plug it into the battery part it's okay and it's still protected.

Microsoft contracts other companies like Foxcon etc or Chinese companies since most things are "made in China", to make their consoles. Some of these manufacturers do have a level of quality control and standards. Microsoft does not make the consoles since
they are a software company. Although they do have an expensive manufacturing machine at their HQ which they've used to make trial controllers, seen it on YouTube.

As for the power surge, people are welcome and DO.... use their own power boards and power surge protectors. Yes it's common. Schools, homes, businesses. In fact the boards and surge protectors are probably better than the cheap surge protector Microsoft
may use. I've been doing this an never had I ever had an issue with using it. It will not necessarily void your warranty since Australia and New Zealand have better consumer legislation which has guarantees which cannot be excluded by any contract, if use
your own power board or surge protector. But make sure you have a quality board or surge protector, since homes have limited power points in each room. That's why they invented power boards etc.

But 12 months warranty is the minimum standard for all electronics. You can get extended warranties from retailers. And a power board and surge protector acts as a "back up" for when and if the console's surge protector decides to fail, you have that safeguard
that your own surge protector will act. And such protectors have a green or red LCD light on the board to indicate if it's working or not. Your console doesn't do that.

You CAN use your own power board and surge protector. It's just that Microsoft does not recommend this. People do this all over the world and it works out fine for them. Consumers CAN use their devices however reasonably fit they see.

As for the design, it's ok. I have the Xbox One X console which is surprise, smaller than my Xbox 360 Slim 250GB console. Both are hooked up and run completely fine. Although old school people who can't think for themselves (sorry, this is my version of
it) may think "aw, Microsoft said we must connect our console DIRECTLY to an AC wall power point". < Many people don't do this nowadays. Learn to think for yourselves. And I mean that in a nice way. It is just a suggestion by Microsoft. It is not law and it
is not illegal to connect your console to a board or power surge protector. It's just a recommendation and suggestion.

I feel sorry for your situation. Hope you get a fix soon. There's good power boards and surge protectors out there which many people and organizations use. You can't tell me Microsoft connects every single device they have directly to an AC Power Wall Socket
DIRECTLY. Homes have limited AC wall sockets so we have to adapt and the easy way is boards. Otherwise I'd need like 6 wall sockets in my bedroom and the average bedroom doesn't have that many.

TThey literally told me it should not be combined with a surge protector because it will impede the current and not let the Xbox get the amount of energy required

If someone told you to jump off a bridge, would you do it?

Microsoft recommends because of that reason. But it's a suggestion and nothing more. They can't force you not to connect directly to a wall socket. I've been doing that since 2010 and never had an issue with it. My consoles work fine. But the decision is
yours. Just saying in a friendly manner you CAN. But if you do, don't get like a $2 cheap board. Get a quality one. However getting a quality doesn't mean having to spend $1000 for one. I have a board which I got for NZ$50 which is like AU$46 and US$33 and
UK$24. If my HP white laptop had a power surge protector in the power brick (do they?) I would use my own quality board regardless cause laptops in NZ and Australia easily average $1000.

It is real. People use quality power boards and surge protectors everywhere pretty much.

Microsoft also tells people to read user manuals. And how many people do that? hm...... and most of them get by just fine.

    Erm.............................

So you admit that the damage probably isn't Microsofts fault, and yet you still blame Microsoft?

How about you do what other people on here have said and actually plug your expensive electrical devices into a good quality surge protector, not a £10 one from Wall Mart, but a really good quality one.
