  1. Toshiba 500 GB External Hard Drive all of a sudden not recognized by XB1?

    Hey guys!

So months ago I bought a 500 GB Toshiba External Hard Drive to extend the space on my XB1. It has been working fine for me and I've been able to store a good many games onto it.

That being said, yesterday evening when I turned my Xbox on I realized that I couldn't select the game I currently had in the Xbox I got a message informing me "This could take a while to install. We'll let you know when it's ready to use!", basically acting
like I hadn't installed the game. So I went to My Games and & Apps and realized that half of my games weren't highlighted or there anymore. Then I went to Settings > System > Manage Storage and found out my xbox is not recognizing my HD.

So I did some research and here are the things I've tried:

    - Simply trying every USB port on my Xbox

    - Going to Power & Startup to un-check "When Xbox is off, turn off storage", switched the USB port, then proceeded to to a hard reset (I did this with every USB port)

    - Hooked it up to my computer to make sure it works, in which it recognized my hard drive but could not access it from my computer seeing as I formatted it for my Xbox

    - Switching USB cords

    - Performed System Update and repeated steps above

My Hard Drive has worked for months, so why all of a sudden would it have stopped working/being recognized? I could really use some help because I really don't want to format all my saved games on that Hard Drive (I've got important things like Witcher III
and Dragon Age on there, so I will be highly upset if I have to format this thing) xD

Also, on a side note. My hard drive will light up when plugged into my Xbox (it lights up blue), so I don't think it's my actual hard drive or any cord associated with it.

Any and all help is welcome, I'm desperate to get this figured out :/

    :)

    Nothing Connects

All of a sudden my Kinect, external hard drive, and controller will not connect to the console. None of it is being recognized by the console. I've tried unplugging and replugging the devises in and rebooting the console. Nothing works. Please help!

  3. Can I save games from a 360 slim to an external HD?

So the max you can increase your hard drive is to use two 32 GB USB drives to get 64 GB more space ? Then your unable to plug in an external hard drive of 500 GB ? My console hard drive of 250 GB is full. I had hope there was a way use a external hard
drive of 500 GB. Then essentially I could buy sixteen 32 GB USB drives to get 512 GB of space.

Hi. You could try connecting to your PC and running CHKDSK through command prompt. When you connect it to your PC can you see a drive letter for that external drive? If so then open the right click on CMD prompt in the start menu and run as administrator,
then type 'CHKDSK :? / r' without the commas and replace ? With the letter of your external drive. Let the process run and finish. This will not delete any of you data, it will just check the drive for errors and try to repair them. It may take a little time
but I have found this to work really well. If you need any help please don't hesitate to msg me. Hope it helps.

  5. Hey guys, got an update.

So I took my hard drive in to see if anything was wrong with the HD itself. The HD was fine, but turns out that everything that I had on my hard drive got wiped for an unknown reason. The guy I talked with said it could've happened due to many things like:
something went wrong during an automatic update, accidentally came unplugged while Xbox was on, or something like that. I had no choice but to format the HD and am now reinstalling everything that was on there. This time I'm going to make sure I transfer all
my saves to my internal HD so that I don't lose that. Here's to starting Witcher 3 over -_- *sigh*

@Majorkinx - Thanks for the suggested fix! Unfortunately I was unable to see my HD (Drive Letter) from my PC since it was formatted to my Xbox. I appreciate the suggestion though, and I would've tried it had I been able to. I will definitely keep that in
mind for the future if my HD gives me issues again. Thanks again! Toshiba 500 GB External Hard Drive all of a sudden not recognized by XB1? :D

  7. @Madmunkey2007, sorry you're having those issues. I'm still upset about having to format mine. It isn't so much of having to reinstall the games that upset, it's losing all my game saves and knowing that when I choose to play those games again I have to
start over. Let's just say I've learned to put my game saves on my actual internal HD now.
