    Took my money and then locked me out of making purchases


    TL;DR: I added funds to my daughter's Microsoft account and have now been locked out of making any purchases, and support won't help. Who do I contact?

    Long version: My daughter wanted to change her Xbox gamertag. This generates a notification in the Xbox Family app for me to approve and add funds to her Microsoft account, so that's what I do. The funds are removed from my bank and added to her Microsoft account. Trying to complete the gamertag change on her account, I get a payment error. Ok, I probably didn't add enough to cover taxes. I add more funds. Same error. I think, okay, probably because I'm on mobile. Go to PC, same error.

    So, I contact chat. The first rep never responds at all. I try again and reach a person who says it will be fixed in 2-3 hours and I should try again then. I do, still doesn't work. I chat again and the person tells me the issue is being escalated, and I should wait. Then I get an email, stating "Our escalations review team has determined that purchases must be disabled on this account due to the detection of suspicious activity. I regret to inform you that we are unable to restore purchasing ability to your account."

    Apparently it wasn't suspicious when I gave Microsoft funds (twice) but now it's suspicious that I'm trying to spend those funds? I've been in contact with chat and phone support about a half dozen times. All they can do is forward to the same escalation team who refuses to speak to me. I've blasted Microsoft and Xbox accounts on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, and Tiktok but no help has been offered there.

    It's been three days. I just want to change my gradeschooler's gamertag to something more usable for her, and be able to purchase things for her in the future if I choose.

    Any advice on other ways I could contact somebody who will actually help? I have spent hours on this. It is monumentally frustrating.

    Well, sincerely this matters needs to be resolved by Microsoft support, from my side I can’t do much.

    I've already requested that and spoken to supervisors who tell me it isn't possible because Escalations does not receive phone calls or chats.

    I've never spoken to Escalation support. From what I understand I can't contact them, they have to contact me. Is that not correct?
