Tomb Raider - black screen of death

was there an update to the title before you did this? if not, it sounds like your cloud save was never corrupted to begin with and was actually an earlier save than the one on your console...

 

I had this problem a few times and I didn't do anything special to fix it. It just worked one day. As soon as I got to play again, I did my next save in another slot. Now I have two corrupted save spots at 57% and cannot continue.

Square Enix is horrible. They wont even properly accept this problem, they always make it sound like an isolated issue even though they probably have thousands of complaints about this. They made $60 off a polished port, you think they could spend a little
money to make a proper patch.

 

I wish MS would get involved in this. It doesn't bode well for them either. This was the first game I got and only game I had at one point. For awhile my console was just acting like the google tv I used to have with less apps.

 

@ChomskyKnows I am not sure if there was an update or not as I have my One settings to auto download any updates. My save was definitely saved to the cloud before and just started working again. I had deleted my save from my console and re-synched it over
20x and the day I posted it finally just worked again after doing that. I am certain it was from the cloud.

I had started a support ticket with Square Enix and they had requested my gamertag at one point so maybe that had something to do with it but I have no idea as they stopped contact after that request.

 

@ChicoQuente, I have just tried once more loading the savegame again, after deleting local data, no success. Still black screen of death.

I had also contacted SE some time ago, they also requested my gamertag, and they stop replying after saying essentially that I have to cope with this.

Got the same problem since about one month now. Nothing works apart from restarting a new game. 67% it's a shame. Now i realy understand why it was a mistake to buy this game digitally. It's now sure that i will buy physical game in order to resell them
as soon as i am not be able to play !

 

I gave up and restarted it, making sure to use both remaining savegame slots alternatively. It worked, I passed my previous "black screen of death" point and completed the game. I still have the "damaged" savegame.

Got the same problem at 66%. I`ll try that deleting and and canceling of the savegame and report back later. I tried deleting the game and downloading again to no result.

 

Guess what?? It didn`t!

I have so little time to play and now I`m not sure if I`ll ever have time to go back and finish the game.

IT REALLY sucks to have no support from developers...

 

I experienced this problem. I did get a response from Square Enix support, but as others have reported, it wasn't all that useful. They did indicate they were collecting gamer tags of affected users. Prior to receiving their response, I did manage by some
miracle to get it working again. What seemed to work for me was:

Delete the game installation from the Xbox.

Insert disc.

Once game is sufficiently installed, start it.

Once game completes installation, load saved game.

This worked for me.

This to me indicates that the installation was corrupt or the Xbox One currently has a game installation flaw. In either of those cases, I'd say the ultimate issue is with Microsoft, since a flaw in game installation is clearly a flaw and a lack of integrity
checking on an install is a lack of foresight to prevent and catch such issues.

Or it's something more random.

It hasn't froze since.

Things that did not work:

Re-syncing saved game from cloud.

Restarting console

Playing with volume settings

Playing with Kinect settings

 

I just recently purchased this game and after completing 77% of it..its now going to the black screen..I wrote to square enix explaining exactly what happened..I have not heard anything from them as of yet..its been 5(days). Its EXTREMELY frustrating to
put that much time and money into this game(I purchased the first copy of Tomb Raider for the 360 when it came out..I never finished it...I purchased a second time (definitive edition for the xbox one) to of course enjoy the tomb raider experience on the xbox
one. So the thought of having to delete the save and start again on yet another play through with uncertainty just isn't something I want to do AT all. I tried the volume setting suggestion..I don't know anyone else with a xbox one to do the second xbox one
suggestion...does anyone know what may work to fix this without deleting my save. Thankyou so much for all of your help.

 

No one I am aware of, sorry mate.

Some people seem to have solved by deleting the local savegame, but I believe it is a different issue.

The volume trick helped NOONE.

what a *** that they still haven't addressed the issue or patched it...

 

What is even more **** is how square enix technical support dealt with the whole thing. Basically after a few emails suggesting basic stuff (reinstall the game) and the volume thing (did not help anyone), they simply stopped answering further emails on the
topic.

 

Extremely Frustrating! Its shocking that there isn't a patch released for this game....while there servers are still up and running for the game(multiplayer) and there still selling copies of the game in stores and through downloads...its ridiculous! Thanks
