    Today, I can no longer use the Youtube app without a gold account, it seems.


    I understand MS's need to monetize things. After all, if, say, Capital One or Bank of America or Washinton Mutual (oops, not them) didn't monetize everything they could, how would they stay afloat? I just wonder what it is about the Youtube app that MS
    thinks they should be monetizing. Is it the development of the app? Did you actually develop it in-house, and do you continue to do so? Does any substantive amount of traffic pass through your networks, when this app is used? Or is it simply that, like a chump,
    I chose the xbox360 for the previous console cycle (which boiled down to the PS3 still being more than I wanted to pay, and the Wii never being in stock at the time), and it happened to be the console made by the kind of businessdouches that feel compelled
    to monetize everything they touch?

    I'm gonna miss those "You talked, we listened" banners. Apparently you listened, put on a little song&dance, then went back to business as usual. d-bags.

    YouTube app telling me I need Gold when I already have it

    Hi,

    I tried out the YouTube app last night and it works great. I tried to use it today and when it launches it says something like "To use YouTube, please sign into an account that has Xbox Live Gold". I only have 1 account on my Xbox One and it has Xbox Live
    Gold, as I just renewed it last week in anticipation of the new console.

    Anything I can do to fix this? The app is great, but now I can't use it!

    Why xbox why? Netflix, etc.

    It's a whole package deal, can I use youtube without gold? NO, so that means you have to pay for it

    If your xbox has an internet connection, then you are connected to xbox live automatically. To use Youtube, on any platform, you must be connected to the internet. Meaning if you are running offline, you will not be able to use internet based apps. If
    your inquiry is that you need Xbox Live Gold to watch Youtube, then that would be false. The Youtube app can work without a Gold subscription.

    There is no need to upgrade your Youtube account to a Youtube Premium account. As for your app not working, chances are that the servers are no longer supported, requiring you to use a different device to watch Youtube.

    Sorry to hear your having an issue,

    You don't need gold to use YouTube or netflix, but you do need to sign in to your account,

    You will also need a netflix account,

    Can you advise if you are receiving an error message when trying to use the apps?

    Dont bother with ROD, unless you already have a rogers account subscription. Youtube seems to be the only new app without hidden subscription charges.
