To start Blu-ray player, we need to connect to Xbox live. (0x87de2714)

I know Xbox live is currently experiencing issues. It happens, it doesn't bother me. That is why I wanted to watch a Blu-ray move. What does bother me is that I can NOT watch a physical disc movie with out Xbox live! Would someone please explain to me
why I need an internet connection to live to watch a physical Blu-ray disc movie? This means that without Xbox live my Xbox one would seem to be a big paper weight.

This even makes less since because the encryption key updates for blu-ray disc is run by an independent network from live.

Anyone have any workarounds? For the first time since before Xbox launched I am questioning my sticking with the Xbox brand.

    :)

Xbox ONE vs Stand alone Blu Ray!

No, you do not need to be connected to LIVE in order to use the blu-ray player. However sometimes the player will need an update for which you do need to be connected to LIVE to complete.

Blu-ray will not play correctly on Xbox one

Hello Brian J, my name is zahir.

I will try to assist you. Please can you tell me exactly what is happening when you play a blu ray disc?

I can provide you with some basic tips so long.

Set up and install the Blu-ray and DVD player app on Xbox

To watch Blu-ray or DVD movies on your Xbox console, you first need to install the Blu-ray Player app. To install the app, choose one of the following options.

Press the Xbox button to open the guide, select Home, and then select Store.

Select Search and enter Blu-ray in the search bar. Select the Blu-ray Player app when it appears in the list of results.

Select Install to download and install the app.

Insert a Blu-ray or DVD disc into your Xbox.

Select the Blu-ray Player app when it appears.

On the Blu-ray Player app details page, select Install.

Your disc should start playing automatically.

After the app is installed, you can watch Blu-ray or DVD movies by inserting the disc into your Xbox console and selecting Blu-ray Player on the Home screen, or by finding it under My games & apps

    Thank you

Xbox ONE vs Stand alone Blu Ray!

I've heard that you need a connection to Live in order to use the blu-ray app on the One. Is this true because if it is going for a standalone player would be the better choice.

Unfortunately the movies are run through a blu-ray player app that needs to be connected to the internet.
